Long story short my media center bit the dust a couple weeks ago. It had been running pretty much non stop for ~5 years with only a upgrade in mobo and processor about 1.5 years ago. Had been rock solid and one day a storm takes it out.

I just got done building a new gaming machine so my old one would take over the media duties of tv and streaming. Its a asus 890gx, 8gb g.skill, and a 5770. I plugged in my two hauppauge pvr-150s (yes they are old but work) and set everything up. Netflix, hulu, and network playback worked solid but no tv.

So upon some googling apparently the cards can't be used with more than 4gb of ram!!!! I know they are old but come on.

I have a pair of 500's and have no issues with them - seems like an odd reason for a TV card not to work - but then again my Media centre only has 4gb - oddness indeed

I thought that it was ridiculous too. After trying everything I limited the memory to 3.5GB in msconfig boot options and what do you know....I have TV.

Not sure why the memory would make that much of a difference but it is posted on their website that it won't work with 4GB+.

32 bit drivers?

Maybe the cards directly address memory for some reason and the higher registers make them fall over gibbering like an idiot?

PVR functionality would make sense.. to be encoding stuff on the fly would take huge resources, so direct memory access would make sense..

Nope, 64-bit drivers. At lease according to their website. However they haven't been updated since '07, so maybe they are just a rigged version of the 32-bit. That would make some sense.

Note: in 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7, you cannot use 4GB or memory or more.<------Right off the download section of their website.

Well that's just stupid then.
