Project: Storm Shadow
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/.pond/shadow.jpg.w560h373.jpg

So, time for a GI Joe mod. The victim case is the Raidmax Blackstorm (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156250), even though this one is clearly white.

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060943.jpg

My favorite part is how the case butterflies open

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060961.jpg

The first thing I had to do was remove the blue trim to paint

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060978.jpg

Then I cut out that hideous honeycomb wannabe mesh

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060980.jpg

I painted the trim with a white plastic primer

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060982.jpg

And then red. You'll see that red and white will be a common theme here

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060983.jpg

Once it dried I put it back in bezel

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060986.jpg

I've had these red LED case feet that I've been meaning to use

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060988.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060990.jpg

Next is the window. I just had to draw out a rough shape to cut

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060987.jpg

And I didn't follow that path at all

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060995.jpg

I added this cool graphic to the window

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060996.jpg

Mounting the window was easy because I used the latches that held the previous side vent in place

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1060998.jpg

And there it is. Cool

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070002.jpg

The panel is back in place, but the blue drive latches look stupid

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070005.jpg

I just had to paint the drive bay covers

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070006.jpg

Now to the fix the front intake

looks nice so far! Seems like this'll be a relatively quick mod?

I like this case, the blue plastic inside, you painted red too.

Actually I don't like tooless drive bays. I'm tossing them for screws

This used to be from a mesh intake box found at Office Depot (http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/311839/Office-Depot-Brand-Metro-Mesh-Front/[/url)

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070009a.jpg

I cut it out and slid it into place

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070010.jpg

Next, I have to change the default blue intake to a red one

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070011.jpg

By itself, it looks odd, so I need a shroud

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070014.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070015.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070017.jpg

With the fan on

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070022.jpg

I changed the rear fan to red too, but the slot covers look dumb

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070027.jpg

So they get painted white

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070031.jpg

And now they're back in place

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070034.jpg

Looking really good thus far

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070037.jpg

Time to move on to the right side where this cool fan shroud swings out. I won't have to piant it because no one will be able to see the blue here anyway. I will add a red fan though

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070040.jpg

Time for a little paint to liven up this panel

I'm not much of a fan for screwless design either. There's too much wobble for one, but I also think that simple screws give a cleaner look. You can paint them to blend in to the point where they basically "disappear" too.

This is looking like a pretty nice mod project so far. Simple and effective. I'd only say that there could be a bit more white accent where the red drive bays are. It just looks like too much red in one spot to me. I think a bit of white could help tie it together better. Although that's just being nit picky. It looks good as is.

I can't think of a single person who has more mod projects than TGS. lol Quite the resume you've built up over the years.

Whoa. Cool case.

Reminds me of the G3/G4 Powermacs.

Just a thought as the airflow looks really constricted would it work to remove it completely? Wouldn't have to worry about hiding those wires or about someone eventually spotting it and being like  thats out of place. Great mod just adding my two cents.

It's on the right side and no one will see it

I got an red 80mm LED fan from Coolmax

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070042.jpg

My unique touch to this mod will be a carry handle made of a scabbard. The sword will still be usable too

I decided to add a little red to the panel with the striped part of the cobra symbol

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070047.jpg

I just made copies to an 11"x17" page

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070046.jpg

And then transferred it to the frog taped panel

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070048.jpg

And there you go...

Sweet looking case mod! Of course, if you do a Storm Shadow mod, you are obligated to also do a Snake Eyes mod. I shall await it expectantly. (I kid, but it would be pretty awesome all the same.)

I bought a pipe repair kit

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070060.jpg

It'll go kind of like this

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070061.jpg

But first I need to make it white

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070062.jpg

And then cut it down to two screws

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070069.jpg

I locked down the rear as well

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070070.jpg

All of it is bolted to the inside

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070072.jpg

To carry the theme of the sword handle I added a strap to the bolts holding the scabbard

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070078.jpg

I even painted the drive to match

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070073.jpg

I disliked the tooless design, so I went with a screw instead

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1070075.jpg

I'm calling this one complete
