Yeah, this is getting creepy.
For those that know us, Luthien and I have been strangely absent for a while, and just now getting back into the swing of things. Why, you ask? Well, we've had a rather interesting turn of events.
In December we found out we're having a baby. In fact, we found out Luthien was 7 months along. Cue three or so weeks later, and we have our first (and hopefully only) child, Asher David Jaden Seales was born January 8th, 2011 at 4:29 PM.
Asher was born with severe hydrocephaly, as well as a double incarcerated inguinal hernia. He had his first surgery at 3 days old, his second at 8 days old (subgalial shunt) and his last Wednesday. He's doing very well, the shunt is helping his brain quite a bit and we've finally heard the words "when he goes home." That's been a large part of our silence-we were told he would never live, and his case is one of the most severe on record for him to have lived as long as he has and with a generally good prognosis. I honestly feared posting because I wouldn't want to have to post a birth announcement and then a death as well. He seems to be out of the woods for the most part, though.
Our boy is still in the NICU at Children's, which is honestly the best place he could be for his condition. We're there every day, and crashing in Birmingham temporarily at the moment so we're in and out as we get time. This is a busy time, and they tell me it only gets worse.
Also, before I forget, I has picture.
