Myspace is also slower than 76% of all rated websites on Alexa. Hilarious. I just visited it for the first time in almost a year. It is HORRIBLE. I don't understand why they don't revert to like "Myspace Classic"??
This recent trend of changing everything is insane. I don't understand what the owners are thinking at all. It's pretty much like this; "We changed it. It failed horrifically bad and now our company is running into the ground. Let's keep it the way it is!".

This recent trend of changing everything is insane.
How people still come out with things in THIS industry, of all industries, is beyond me.
Using the same data source:
http://blog.alexa.com/2008/05/facebook-overtakes-myspace_07.html
The new style was introduced on October 27, 2010. Is that the reason for decline? Look at both graphs before making that call.
The computer industry's landscape changes exponentially, as it always has or will. If people DON'T change, you're left behind in the blink of an eye.
Facebook has changed constantly, without notification, since its inception. Using your argument, why hasn't it suffered?
There are just a bunch of whiners that complain ANYTHING is changed.
They secretly like it, but have a compulsion to stand out at ANY "correct" opportunity.

Facebook changes slowly and does so the right way. Simple, non-obtrusive, light-weight, etc. Although I don't like the new picture viewing thing they just introduced. But that's not really a big deal. At least it works.
Reddit hasn't changed pretty much at all and its doing pretty well. It's all about KISS. Keep it simple stupid. Myspace just got more and more cluttered, complex and bloated, which is why I think it's hurting so bad.

Simple, it's the "flavor of the month". Eventually, something bigger and (touted as, anyways) better will come along.
In the music industry, this would be referred to as 'Here today, gone later today".

just a minor side point... but this topic technically goes against everything we stand for as modders :P

Well, perhaps the headline should be changed to "unless you know how to.". :p
That's really what this is about. All of these websites are changing, drastically, and in the wrong way. Hint the massive user declines. And they're all popular websites, so, just go back to the old design? Obviously there was nothing wrong with it. Granted, myspace was on a decline before the "big change" but they had been changing it around since before then as well, too. And a lot of the people I talk to now say they out-right refuse to use it now because of the last big change.
They did improve the mobile app, though. Just needs a bit more work.

they can all crash and burn as far as i'm concerned.

This.
Just last night the SO and I were out to dinner before a Hockey game and were quite amused at a table of 8, 20 somethings. When they came in they were all friendly and the conversation was hectic and fun. Within 15 minutes they were all on their phones updating their facebook status and for the next 20 minutes barely one word was said between the group.
I don't use any of the "social media" time wasters and could care less what a elementary school chum is up to. There is a reason why most people lost contact in the first place.

This.
I despise Facebook but I do have to admit its advantage as a tool. Even Twitter has its uses. Myspace ceased to exist for me the second time I tried to use it. I'm frankly surprised it's still around.
Stereotypical situation:
Boy and girl sitting on park bench together.
Boy pulls out phone, types "I think this texting thing is getting out of hand."
Girls' phone buzzes, reads message, and replies "Me too."

I agree with blue. It has its uses, just look at Egypt.
Some people however use it in a way that I find pathetic. But then again it's their time and energy. I'll just keep unfriending those who post too much :P

Man. I feel really lucky! I don't know a single person who uses social networking inappropriately. Although I could imagine! Like what happened to you Airbozo. That's... just ridiculous. I would grow very bored very fast. I can't even imagine using Facebook for more than 5 minutes at a time let alone 20. You should have restarted the convo, start a game or show a trick or something. Like, do you think the height of this cup is longer than the rims circumference? That's always a fun one. If its a pint glass, the length around the rim of the cup is usually 12 inches. It's very misleading, people usually guess it's taller than it is long around the rim, especially when you start stacking things under the cup to make it taller since you have up to basically 11 inches that you can play around with.
