looking for a cheap videocard for my htpc. I need something on par or better than my current 9600gso, which has some leaky caps :hurt:

id like something maybe in the range of a ati 5550/5570 or geforce 240. it'll be handling hd content and light gaming.

if i cant find a videocard, maybe i can look up the caps and replace them.

caps are cheaper than video cards. unless you can't solder well, then they make things more expensive, lol.

yeah i've gotten pretty good with the soldering iron, so switching the caps wouldnt be a problem.

Just for clarification, you're looking for a PCI-E (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCIe) card, not a PCI-X (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI-X) card, yes?

BTW, if you do try replacing the caps, make sure you have a higher-powered iron. I've found most quality electronics manufacturers use high-temp solder on their boards, so small (20-30W) irons take a really long time to get components off..if they get them off at all.. I have a cheap little 40W desoldering iron that I picked up at Radio Shack for, iirc, ~$10-15 that works well for me.

I think I have some of those rattling around at home. I can take a look tonight if you like. ..or you could just pick up a few of these. ;)

If you want medium gaming, my old Diamond 4670 might work. the fan is kinda crappy, though
