Just wondering if i can get some OC help on my i7 870

I've overclocked AMD chips. but intel looks to have a whole different set of options. Goal is 4.0 on this chip. its under water, and has 3x120mm of rad space all to itself... Thanks for helping guys.

diluzio, its pretty similar, the one thing you gotta watch if you are going to tweak voltages is memory voltage has to stay within a certain amount of.... i think its the pll. otherwise, pretty much the same, just different options and names. if you vary those two voltages too much, your computer can have an aneurysm and die.
might want to double check the two for safety sake, though.

I've not had the opportunity to OC an i7, which has changed substantially from the Core2s. I have heard that they are more similar to AMD chips though, just different names like Cale said. The i7s are not very tolerant of high voltage but Intel chips aren't afraid of a little heat either. I doubt with a dedicated triple rad your temps will ever get very high, but if you see 70C-80C temps, don't panic and pull the cord out of the wall. AMD chips tend to max out at 60-62C whereas Intel chips max around 85C and if they get above that they will throttle to prevent damage. Just saying you have a high ceiling if you want to push things.:D I wouldn't recommend 70C+ for everyday use though.

Here's a bit o' info on your chip:

probably not your proc.... usually hissing is from bad capacitors on the boards, i once had it hiss because i took an older graphics card from like 750 mhz to 950.... and it was a dual chip card.... :devious:

So... after the hissing I stock clocked it again... this morning I was greeted by a dead mobo... contacted the seller.... te board was less than 48 hours running... back to my Phenom that's in a 2 year old board that was overclocked its entire life...

yeah, as i was saying, hissing usually = bad caps, the mainboard was probably bad.
