So I've been gone a bit over 2 years and it seems the the forums have died down a bit. I also see that the completed worklog process has stopped? At least it seems so.
Am I wrong or has it been a quiet past 2 weeks?
I don't know.
We've gotten a few new members since I've joined.
But the completed WLs seem to stay where they are.
Even though the CWL thread is still up and running :P

I think all forums have died down. But that's the same with every site.

Things tend to pick up over the summer as the weather gets nicer and more people get out modding. The names may change but I haven't noticed a decrease in intelligent, helpful people here. It's likely just tax time/exams/spring work increases.
Schoolwork in general, too.
That doesn't stop me from breaking out the Dremel when I have the time.

The worklog forums do seem to be a real mess atm... I think a lot of the site staff are busy with reviews and other news though so finding the time to go through so many topics must be hard. I think we could do with an 'on-hold' forum where old and inactive projects can go. There's nothing worse than reading through a dozen pages of a promising worklog just to discover it was last updated 4 years ago. A good spring clean through those forums would do the site a lot of good though, make it much easier to navigate projects and mods. And it is Spring after all so what better time for that clean :D

I agree 100% with that. I started 3 mods back in 08. Finished 2 but only updated 1 of them. the 2nd one was more of a build mini mod and the 3rd.. well I moved so it died there. It would be nice to close some of them out.

Exactly, I started a build a few years back which will be finished one day as a 'V.2.0' but for now it shouldn't still be jamming up the WIP forum and making it harder for members and guests to find good active projects. I wouldn't even suggest that they would need locking as then we remove the ability of the modder to return (however likely or unlikely that event may be)
My advice would be to set a cutoff date of perhaps 12 months from the last post by the modder who's worklog it is. After all, it doesn't really matter if a thread is active or not if the modder in question has been awol for 3 years... An exception to waiting for a set period of time (12 months maybe too long, just spitballing ;)) is of course if the modder comes out and tells us that it's cancelled or will never be finished.
If we can go by those few general rules then we can relegate literally hundreds of WIP threads to an 'On-Hold' forum where they will get less traffic and be less likely to put visitors off from browsing (dead ends, unfinished projects and an inability to locate a specific worklog due to loads of abandoned projects will sadly have that effect on people :p) If at any point a mod notices a thread from the 'On-Hold' forum in the active threads then all that's required is a quick check to see if it's the return of the original modder or some necro-posting noob and then either ignore it or move it back to WIPs!
Simples ;) Anyone fancy the job of going through a few thousand threads to categorise them into finished, abandoned and active mods lol

Still more snappy around here then when I first joined! :bunny:

I understand the concept but I'm not sure I really get why another section would be needed.
If people want to see one's that are up to date, they are all on the first few pages. If you don't want to see ones from years ago, don't go and click on page 20 or whatever.
If you do a separate section then mods have to go and move each one to another section, and then if someone comes back or starts up again it has to be moved back.
But I've always been of the type if I don't like it, don't use it/look at it. It's pretty simple not go get old stuff if you aren't going through pages deep in the abyss. If you want recent, use the button at the bottom and change it from "beginning" to whatever interval you want. Few mods get bumped from the dead, and those that do are generally bumped by the modder. Dead mods tend to fall into the abyss, so just don't search in the abyss. :D
Anyway, it's the time I think. We only have a small selection of active members, and action dies down a bit at various times of the years, and slows a bit on Sundays from what I've seen. Things are still going well afaik, don't worry.
I think an on-hold/dead section would be good, but only have projects moved there on the request of the modder, like the finished mods section is now. Reason being, 1) much less work for the moderators, and 2) some mods just have really long down-time. I know I've seen quite a few that have come back to life after more than a year. But, when we're done with our mods, they're not always 'finished'. For example, my mightyMite mod...never really completed, but long since disassembled and relegated to the scrap pile. Part of it may be my idea of what constitutes 'finished', especially when, as with all of mine to date, there was never really a cohesive goal, so there's no way to say 'yes, I achieved that goal.
Oh, but as for the original topic.. :P Yes, I think they have died down a bit recently, but as others have said, they usually pick up again over the summer when weather/temps/available time/etc are more conducive to people working on stuff.
I noticed the worklog graveyard area.....

I think it's the forum goers are protesting the fact I'm not an awesome moderator yet, who lives in the southern hemisphere.

There's a solution, give Crenn a mod-bage on the provision that he sorts through the WIP section and moves the sleepy ones to a new on-hold forum lol He'll soon be giving up that position I'm betting :D

I spent a year in Australia, most of it working in a small computer shop in a little mining town in northern WA - based on THAT experience, I'm not sure any Australian should EVER have ANY power when it comes to ANYTHING computer related....

Yea, I've noticed too that the forums seemed to have died down.
Not a lot of mods being shown here also.
I've been lurking here a lot, but nothing is coming up that I feel like I could contribute to the convo except "Yup" or "Man that sucks".
Someone needs to do a big mod project and namedrop TBCS as much as they can.

I wish I had the room to do another full case mod. But due to material and space restrictions all I can do is slightly mod a new case :(
We need Paul to put something out.

That's what his wife says ALL the time.
Pretty much what you're saying is the bane of all modding.
It's either you have too much time and not enough resources, or enough resources but not enough time.

That's Western Australia, aka the Cashed up Bogans:

Either way, Melbourians aren't too bad, unless it comes to a competition between Melbourne and Sydney! (Seriously, Melbourians think that Melbourne is the best city in Australia and Sydneysiders think that Sydney is the best city)
Although that being said, you do have some REALLY 'bad' people in Australia, but you do come from the UK, I can only imagine it's a little worse there from what I've heard ;P
