I put DD-WRT on a Linksys. Not bad. It has a ton of features in it, and way more setting options then the factory Linksys wares. My only complaint is it lacks some basic stuff. Like detailed information about what is connected to it. that drives me nuts...

What version is your router? If it's a v1.0 or v1.1 it'll work.

Personally, I love the dd-wrt firmware I have on my WRT310N. Way more flexibility than I've ever seen in a consumer router, and worlds better than the factory firmware (not sure why...the factory firmware on the WRT310N just really sucks..maybe so they can sell more of the Cisco Valet series that's the same router in a different skin with different firmware?).

As for other open firmwares, I've never used any besides dd-wrt, but I hear good things about Tomato.

EDIT:
Oh, and according to Wikipedia, the WRT300N v2.0 is supported by OpenWRT.
