I could go on about this potential amazing feat of british engineering, or the staggering cost, or any number of things in this article at Gizmodo...
http://gizmodo.com/#!5794399/this-1000mph-world-speed-record+breaking-car-has-the-same-carbon-footprint-as-35-lactating-cows
BUT the reason I DID post it, was this one single quote which had me utterly amused....
As Painter says, "essentially we've got a Formula One engine as a fuel pump!"

O_o
Heheh, yeah, I saw that on another forum. Sounds freakin awesome!
Oh, and yes, the fact that they have to have a fuel pump that powerful is pretty crazy. :P That's a LOT of fuel.

Yes it is a LOT of fuel but it also is fighting the G load to deliver it which is a huge part of needing that much pumping power.
Imagine what would happen if it wrecked at 999MPH.

Or if it flipped upside down! :P

And that's worse than a supersonic aircraft how? :P That's basically what this is, just with no wings.

The old "Quick drop and a sudden stop," or sliding along on sand paper. Not taking into account ejection systems...

Ah man 12??? That's just a waste - you only need 11 - two sixpacks will cover most needs - and remember you have a spare hand when driving so you dont NEED all 12!!!

I thought the double six packs were chasers for whatever was already in your spare hand...
1000mph drunk driving ftw! probably looks a lot like a flaming crater.
Darwin award, here we come! :P

couldn't they just move the tank and fuel line ahead of the engine?
you'd save a formula 1 engines worth of weight.
[edit]
looks like they already beat me to it,

It's still, what, 3 tons of hydrogen peroxide that thing has to shift per minute...
A friend recently met the driver, apparently he's a very nice chap.
