so i've farted around a bit with my gals computer and wanted to try some new things out for the 1st time since i'm still pretty amateur when it comes to painting compared with you all and your paint jobs that would make Chip Foose stand in envy.
So i chalked the lines out free hand... and thought it seemed pretty sweet
http://i55.tinypic.com/292sisk.jpg
painted the first coat
http://i54.tinypic.com/1zsuv8.jpg
painted the pink secondary color
http://i52.tinypic.com/21o7slx.jpg
heres tonight, you can see the what i call rainbow on the other side panel. I'm trimming all the vinyl graphics with some stripes as well.
http://i51.tinypic.com/dggsib.jpg
starting the top piece with the same style pin stripes
http://i55.tinypic.com/kspx3.jpg
lower.
http://i52.tinypic.com/jz7hop.jpg
bottom.
The power light changes from Blue-Purple-Red and back. Theres also a LED circuit in there that changes RGB (green in that picture at the moment) and the 4" CCFL's inside the front.
http://i51.tinypic.com/x4432x.jpg
anyways hope to hear what you all think, and opinions would be awesome. i've got to straighten out the stripes on the side, especially the pink. but the front and top i think will be solid white with those flowers and a black pinstripe instead of the stock silver. i'll have to do some testing though with the flowers first to see if my trim tape will accept it and not peel the image off.
the intel and nvidia stickers are going as well.
Insides going to have more pin stripes and a solid pink color., i've already painted the sides of the cpu heatsink (more on that later) and made it into a crazy contraption.

So far awesome job man. Are you going to put in a window so you can show off your work?

you know since this isn't a limited production case or something special.
I was thinking about blowing up a graphic of a blossom flower, then stenciling it to the side with the white pencil, then cutting out the shape and adding in a window to have a Japanese flower style window.
would be teh awesome and i've already got the tools.

Looks nice man, my favourite part by far is the hand painted detail though. Stuff like that shows your skill far more than the vinyl but the end result is great either way ;)

something like that? only less "i've been up 23 hours" and more "i totally kick a@# at this" in its design
If anyone can whip up a easy(ish) design to cut out that would fit this theme i'd more then welcome an idea or two.

What would look amazing is if you could use the same kind of image to design the window as you used on the front of the case. The big bloom just under the power button... If you could cut out JUST the pink areas and leave the black lines as part of the case it would look just epic :)

ooooh i see i see.
hmmm....
guess i'd have to take a picture of the sticker, then blow it up, photoshop out the pink and white areas hollow. then print out that, stencil it to some construction paper, then stencil THAT onto the case and proceed to cutting it up.

Ya don't cut out just a big blob of siding. Cut out parts of it or just the insides and leave the edges there.

Sounds like a good plan! Or to cut out the middle man you could just scan it up, print off a copy and cut out the middle bits by hand. The contrast between black and pink on the design is already so well defined you don't even really need to spend time on photoshop editing out the colours. After all, you'll only be cutting them out to make the stencil anyway so who cares what colour they are :D

I'd like to keep the center pieces (i guess the details of the pedals and the stenson or what ever the center piece is lol) like the other guys said.
must ponder more.
In other news its up and working as a computer now, instead of some parts in a computer case lol

Um, I know, it was me that originally suggested you do so lol I'm not talking about ALL of the middle, I'm talking about the petals and such which you'll be cutting out from the shape to make the window. Why waste time in photoshop changing the colour of anything when really all you need is to put a copy of the shape onto paper or something and then transfer it onto the case for cutting? :p

well i was thinking it would give a more detailed shape, and i'd be able to have some sweet overlay a detailed design.
can you mspaintCAD a idea of what your talking about? even if is in chicken scratch form lol.
I've also learned not to trust my free stylin' cut out. and my drawing skills have dropped like 20lvl's since high school so thats why i was thinking about making that stencil/template. It worked flawlessly on the Smart-Glass Gibson case.
Oh anyone know where to get some Pink CCFL's or pink LEDS?
odd request.. already asking almighty google with little results.
[edit]
omg i need to change my pants
http://www.amazon.com/4pc-Pink-Interior-Underdash-Lighting/dp/B000UV8FRE
12v can't be pulling more then 1/4 amp if is a controller and a sha-bang of LEDS
Easy to use Control Box & Mounting Hardware Included
72 Ultra Bright LEDs with 18 Wide Angle LEDs per Tube
Sound Activated Option with Included Sensitivity Controller
Multiple Patterns Available Including Strobe, Fading, and Chasing Effects
Now i must say. interior lighting with lighting effects would be something sweet especially the chasing if you did the four light bars in order. especially with a Japanese cherry blossom window to look through. lol
I'm probably stripping the plastics off and throwing the white paint on it tommorow.
Thanks for the input everybody.

The black would be metal you keep while the white is stuff to cut away. I made it very quickly from a screenshot of the front of your case then monochromed it and stretched it out a bit :D Everyone else uses photoshop, I'm happy with the basics lol
Those lights look wicked by the way, would look really nice if you had those lights inside (maybe even paint the inside a pale pink colour to enhance the effect) and then have this bloom cut from a panel which remains painted black. In fact the side panel you already have that is black would be perfect. Just cut out the bloom where it looks best and compliment it with designs like the one already painted on. I think that would look great with the pink light from inside the case (of some pink tinted plexi?) Sometimes less is more :)

So i attempted some scroll saw action today with the side panel.
Everything was great besides the fact we only had wood bits hahhaa.
so i'll be going to a local hardware store and picking up a metal cutting blade or two since i've heard they like to snap.
did get a single pedal mostly cut out, but those wood bits just didnt want to cut worth a damn.

Working on the cowling for the new heatsink layout.
If anyones familiar with the FX-510 series from gateway, theres one fan total in the system, and it uses a funky green cowling to direct air over the passive cpu heatsink.
Well that design blows chunks (cpu temps were reading in the 160's) So i came up with the push/pull fans (temps now below 100)

Buddy said he'll let me try my hand with a plasma cutter.. :hurt:
He did it with uber sucess on the Electronic tint gibson
But that was a square, and not a elaborate flower design.
BUT! i can do way more detail with the plasma cutter then i ever can with the scroll saw.
Hes also hooking me up with a piece of 2/18th" tempered glass for the window, lexan and polys are cool. but ever since electronic tint gibson, i see glass is the way to for for ultimate side windows on computers. and a 1/4" mirror for the bottom part. just got to micrometer the bottom out and he'll throw it on the glass optimizer and i'll have a mirror bottom to the case (haven't seen that done before, and ought to look like staring off into the abyss once its in)

lol... you are correct sir... but in general google translate is terrible at grammar, and picking the correct word.
I'm trying to do it word by word. then google the phrase in well google itself and see what it comes back as.
i googled ディーブイディー and came back with a bunch of DVD's so i figured it was correct.
would be really sweet to get the proper phrases once i get that Haiku figured out.
But the window needs to come before all of that.
surgery put off the plasma cutting, im going to try and do it sometime this week though. still a toss up between the plasma cut and the regular old scroll saw. I've got alot of practice on scroll saws but 1 or 2 tries with a plasma cutter before in my life. plus its a crazy plasma cutter lol (i happen to like having 10 unmolested fingers)
think im going to focus up on the CPU cooler today since i've been wanting to fiddle with it anyways and get it to a point where its one piece and not a series of rigged together thing-a-ma-bobs.
I'm still undecided about the color of it. but i think i'm just going to do all pink, put a vynil graphic over it, and maybe hand paint this in white.

well crazy 65mph winds, 1.25" hail and a severe tornado thwarded my attempts at the window (bastages) so ill try again for this week.
Majorbud did loan me his eVGA 7900GT-KO video card for tiff to use for now.
http://i53.tinypic.com/2zftsmw.jpg
Farted around with some fans since that video card has a tendency to well..burn up like its brother did so really wanted some airflow over it.
http://i55.tinypic.com/141ty03.jpg
The particular plan for the cooling, card i'm looking at replacing the 7900 with has a similar heatsink design so the hood over the video card ought to work. I ghetto fabricated a cardboard intake and it dropped the idle temperature 2F and the load temp 7F. so i roughly fabricated a plastic one just now

lol thanks, my mods don't ever really have a plan cut into stone with what im going to do. i just kinda "go with the flow" i suppose, i'll usually get a idea while im working on it for something cool. or someone from here gives me a good idea.
about the window,
Boy we tried that plasma cutter on the side panel for the first cut out, and well it just wouldn't cut a skinny enough line for what we needed. so we ended up using a drill to cut out the inital hole then bud found his pneumatic punch.
http://www.mytoolstore.com/astro/600st-1.jpg
That tool is about the coolest tool you could ever have for cutting a intricate window out of a computer case.....period...never seen such a easy to use tool, that does its job with ease and its forgiving all at the same time.
it just ate it man.
2UI_ZEY1xuI
I guess people call them nibblers to.
At either rate i may have discovered the ultimate computer window making tool by accident.
So anyways we drilled the hole, used the nibbler to rough trace out the window, then came behind with a bi-metal fine metal bit in a jib saw and trimmed up the lines. (took about 10 minutes a hole) but we had to leave by 5 (plant shuts down @ 5) so we went back to his place and sorta shot the shat and sanded out the rough edges left behind by the jigsaw.
Going to try and get the other four holes cut out today before i pick the kiddo up and then finish sanding and what not over the weekend.
Also drumming up a pretty cool paint design for the side panels since i dont really like the "crisp" lines between the black and white around the sides of the chassis.
Camera batteries are dead, that picture was a pic off dead batteries and doesn't really do the side panel justice.
man some of those pieces are pretty close together. one part is probably less then 1/4" thick between holes. it'll be rough getting one of the last pedals cut out from it.
Thanks for all the positive feedback yall!

oh yea, you may have noticed it doesn't have the pistills (the fingers on the flower i'd guess you would say) thats because when we got to cutting it out, those pieces were just bending back and forth rather violently. so we just axed those out.
when i get the piece of glass, i'll make them out of electric tape with a razor blade, tape those to the outside of the glass and mount the glass to the inside of the chassis and it ought to be hardly noticeable but still have that "flower" look to it we wanted.
Girl friend is loving the computer case so far! this will last longer then any old bouquet flowers and box of chocolates. it comes directly from my heart, made with my own hands specially designed for her with her favorite theme, its not something purchased at a store that i just picked up because i wanted to be nice. Sorta pourin' some love into this case. ahahhahaha hope that doesn't sound to cheesy.
paint on the side panel also took some hits and needs to be at least partially re-done. I'll pick up a another can of pink.
But i've got textured grey, black and white for the three tone paint on the side panel. plus acryilic white and pink for the pin stripes and haiku.
speaking of which i need to get all love-dovey and write out the haiku then ask whats his face for a Japanese translation.

also going to trim up that cowling above and below the video card. makes a difference though.

Winning hearts and minds is the key, good on you! I'm loving this build, I can only imagine the points you're scoring with this!
I went back and looked at the first post and compared it to the last, the result is AMAZING! Great job!
Ya nobody believes me when i say its a Gateway FX-510

I've been sorta slacking on it what with the 105~112F non stop radiation blast outside my door. But a few cold fronts have moved through and it seems like we're in a nice thick mass of cold air heading towards the gulf.
In other words... Cuttin' weather.
As for the lighting my buddy majorbud and i have been scheming a plan to use a rectifier to power a LED status light on the electronic tint gibson case. and i'd run that up the middle where the black strip is in the front bezel.
and im thinking i'd use white LEDS for the front lighting and then the pink/white kit for the inside (possibly connect the front lights to the controller for the lighting kit)
