I ran across this the other day while I was researching...I really don't remember...

Designed last year and apparently presented last month at some conference on the societal affects of life-prolonging medical treatments, may I present...The Euthanasia Coaster:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euthanasia_Coaster

Basically, the loops maintain a constant 10G of relative downward force on the passengers for 60s, inducing cerebral hypoxia (insufficient supply of oxygen to the brain) and, subsequently, death.

I'm not promoting euthanasia, I just thought this was an odd tidbit that might amuse some people. :P Though I will say...if you have to go, it's probably a fairly cheap and painless way to do it. And more fun than suicide booths. :whistler:

... wtf that is one deadly ride. hmm it would be ****ty for the other passengers in line to see the first people die and know that there going to die if they ride it, yet some how i can see this being built and people wanting to ride it for there last ride.

I believe that's the point.;)

I've never felt the urge to end my own life so I have no way of relating to people that do. I would require a damn good reason to ride this thing, similar to a 'you must be this tall to ride' requirement...not sure where the cutoff point should be drawn though.:?

How very Rube Goldberg. Making something that takes a minute, that I could do in a few seconds. :bunny:

Hell yeah, this is an awesome idea! So much better than going out the way I see most people (i.e. withering away in nursing home or hospital beds). And as an added benefit, your family has to look at this throughout the funeral. I need to get cracking on a Last Will that demands open casket.

No, you'd be crushed by sheer force.

At 10g's?

Nah, not at just 10G's. IiRC, the current record for unprotected human sustained g-forces without blacking out is somewhere around 35. It all depends on the duration and direction of the force. The weak point in experiments like that is almost always the circulatory system. Long before any of your soft organs or even your brain starts to see any physical damage from the pressure, your blood starts pooling in the wrong places, your heart unable to provide enough pressure to keep it circulating properly. this is why fighter pilots have special suts that provide pressure to the legs, and sometimes, the whole body, to help keep blood flowing properly. The big problem is always that either too little or too much blood is flowing to the brain. In the case of this coaster, blood is pressed into the legs and lower body, the heart unable to pump hard enough to get the blood up to the brain. As a result, the brain is deprived of oxygen; a state that will eventually result in unconsciouness and death if not rectified.

i actually thought about how i want to go out. it seems weird, but i want to be very successful during life, then win a darwin award for strapping a rocket to my back. i think it would be cooler than the stupid coaster, and i would go down in history as the most smart and successful to win a darwin award. but it would have to be awsome, and 80+ yrs old.

If I'm not mistaken, to qualify for a Darwin you can't have contributed to the gene pool before you die.

and 80+ yrs old.

And that would be sad.
