I need to upgrade my wifes 8800GS and I'm not sure what to go with. I don't want to spend any more than $100.

Let me know what you all think.

Thanks in advance,
Fuga

How much does memory clock matter? If alot then this one is 2x better memory clock but slightly lower on core clock and shader clock.

You can find GTX460's hitting under $100 recently. That should stomp on the gt430.

Can you link?

The only one I saw was this Galaxy (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162058) one after the rebate... never heard of the brand before...

galaxy is a pretty decent brand from what i've been hearing.

After reading the card more the only thing better is the Stream Processors and Memory Clock. The Core Clock, Shader Clock and Memory are better than the 460.. does that matter? or is it just a really low end 460?

The stream processors are the most important factor. Sort of like cores on a CPU. 17% faster clock with 250% more cores is way more power.

Galaxy is a good brand. Evga has B-stock 460 768mb cards for 90$. Don't have the time for a link, but google evga b-stock and its right in there.

There's a world of difference between the gt430 and the gtx460.

B-Stock ok to buy? If so I'll pick up that 460 right now.

As in SLI 460's vs SLI 240's? The 460's would utterly and completely destroy the 240's. :D

Hmm... Then maybe I should buy 3... one for my Wife and 2 for me :D

But again... is the B-Stock reliable?

Just phone up EVGA and ask. Normally b-grade just means damaged packaging with an as-new product.

I don't think it has a very long warranty either. I simply posted the evga as it is a more renowned brand. EDIT: Just checked it and evga bstock only has a 90 day limited warranty, so you don't get the lifetime warranty of a retail product.

But there have been a few deals that bring the 460 down to under $100, mostly after rebate. Tigerdirect has an evga one for $105 AR, but the rebate is $40 IIRC. Newegg has the galaxy for $95AR.

Hmm.... now idk what to do...

Maybe I'll just get the Galaxy one because of the warranty.

performance wise I suggest you get gtx 260 if your planning to replace a 8800gs

As much as I like my 260's, they're not a cost-effective solution anymore. You can get a 460 for the same price or less, and it will massively outperform a 260.

Ya I'm still waiting to get a good deal on a 460. Been looking at Newegg pretty much daily.

Just don't buy any cards from BFG as they have stopped producing/selling graphics cards, (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/GPU-Graphics-Cards-GeForce-BFG,news-33493.html) not surprisingly I have recently seen some quite good deals on BFG cards but I don't know what would happen if you had problems with one?

Thanks bud I did see that today. I was going back and forth between the 460 SE and the 460. After doing about an hour of reading I bought the GTX 460 B-Stock from EVGA. I've heard lots of good things about the B-Stock so I'll take my chance. Was only $90 but is far better than the SE. Thanks again for looking out!
