Group memberships?

What are they used for, and is TBCS using them at all?

I was thinking of things like "official folding-ers", "Mods and Admins (or just TBCS Staff)", etc.

No, that would be too much time on administration. There are users, then there are staff. Among the staff, things are broken down in to groups depending on your function. Admins can do things that mods can't who can do things that journalists can't.
