There is a silent epidemic sweeping the world. This chemical is colourless and odourless, but responsible for the deaths of thousands every year - in 2004 a single sudden release of this chemical killed a quarter of a million people. Another 15,000 were killed this year after another sudden release in Japan.

This chemical is an asphyxiant in its liquid form, causing a slow choking death. It causes burns in its gaseous form, peeling off skin after only a short exposure. At the turn of the 20th century, 12 million tonnes of this chemical were trapped inside human bodies - now this figure stands at almost 40 million tonnes.

This chemical is found in rivers, rain, it is released into the sea in massive quantities. It is poured over crops and it is fed to the animals we eat.

We must act now to ban dihydrogen monoxide before it is too late.

Ha-ha!
this isn't a laughng matter.

WHAT I REALLY WANT TO KNOW IS, WHY IS A CHEMICAL USED IN NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS IN MASSIVE QUANTITIES ALSO USED IN BABY FOOD?!

I pulled this on my Chemistry I students earlier this year. It was partly a test to see if they had paid attention when I taught how to name covalent compounds, partly to see if they remembered it was April 1st.

My chem teacher mentioned that when we started that unit. It is all true, though.

Penn & Teller also did this :D. If you have netflix, it's a must watch.
