My M11X was idling at about 60-65*C lately, (High performance mode, doing nothing) and it was bothering me... So... I decided to tear it apart and A) Clean the HSF, and B) replace the thermal paste with something more useful.

The Root of the problem

That thermal paste came off with some help from my screw driver, and a little rubbing alcohol

Reassembled, there was surprisingly next to no dust in the heatsink, just a light coating on the fan blades, which means any temperature drop can be attributed to the thermal paste.

The GPU is soldered directly to the Mainboard, so no upgrades for this little guy.

The same holds true for the i5 Processor

The mainboard. For size refrence, the yellow thing is the SD card reader. Tiny isn't it?

And with the newly pasted HSF in place

The body, actually made from metal, with a "soft touch" rubber coating.

P.S. my lights are set to rotate through the entire color spectrum that the laptop can display, so it just happened to be pink when i snapped this picture...

so far? Success. laptop is idling in the 45-50 range, and the gpu is in the 50-55 range... im pretty happy, and i got some gunk cleaned out of the hinge while i was in there. Just goes to show that the "thermal paste" that manufacturers use is junk. lol...

Thermal paste from OEMs are bad in lappies.

I know.

Did you lap the HS, too??
