Resently i have thought about adding another fan to my few year old dell. But come to find out there 3 pin connecters are differnt from the standard. I was wondering if there was a way to hard wire or even just mod the actual stock dell fan recever to accept a standard 3 pin fan.

Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Trust Dell to be different. Adding a fan? I would just wire it into the 12V line. Find a black and yellow pair going to a hard drive and splice it into that.

It actually is that easy-but dell won't want you to find this out.

;) Don't worry about making a mistake, to be honest it's one of the easiest mods out there. Most people don't even call it a mod. I also found that in some Dells the fan's aren't to standard sizes (92mm anyone?) so size up your fan first.

wow i looked and yes 92 mm is all over the place. im ususally really good at finding whatever products i need on the net and 100 mm fan.... ya... fat chance... the only real mention i found of them was in item descriptions of preassembled products. i think your going to have a rough time finding a replacement dude

^^ oh come on, it wasn't that difficult to find a 100mm fan.

hmmm... just saw that fan is a sleeve type bearing... that sux...
here's one made by Dell http://www.hypermicro.com/product.asp?pf_id=ACDE008
Don't have any information on the Dell fan though.

And to answer the original question yeah it's easy to hardwire it in. or... they've got plenty of options for fan connections that attatch directly to your PSU.

Well, i've only ever seen one 92mm fan and it was in a dell. It was also really annoying. I think that most fans we get in the UK are either 80mm or 120mm. (excluding chipset crap obviously-you won't get a 120mm fan on a chipset without some serious work)

92mm fans aren't THAT common anywhere... but I've had a case with couple of them. And the new Zalman CNPS9200 is a 92mm fan.
