I know what you're thinking. "What? x88x, you're a watercooling geek, wtf are you doing putting lots of fans in a computer?" ...well, aside from the fact that I have 8 fans in my watercooled computer... :whistler: ... This is not a computer! :D

Seriously, no computers here...

Ok, so my house has no central air and my office has no fan in it. Those two pieces of information together make for my office (where my computer lives) being rather nastily hot today. Unfortunately, I can't convince myself to buy a window box fan since I don't have a job at the moment (and yet I bought a $55 mitre saw today... <_< >_> ...shut up!), so I thought, what can I do instead? Then I remembered about my box of spare computer fans! Yes!

The victims:

After way too long cutting out holes and hammering metal holding posts flat...and cracking at least one fan...yeah, I probably should have picked up some twine or zip-ties or something...but I didn't want to go anywhere so I just chopped up these ugly wire garden thingies that I found under my shed.

..ok, so the original idea was to stick it across two windows, but I gave in and turned on my window unit for now, so windows are all closed....but it couldn't stand up on its own so I gave it a friend...and a heavier friend on top of that one...

And in operation!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot! You might notice that the first picture kinda looks like crap compared to the other two. I finally got batteries for my camera! :D The crazy thing is, my phone has a 5 Megapixel sensor and my camera only has a 5.2...not much difference there, but it is amazing how much difference actually having proper lenses makes.

Take it you had flash on in the operating mode???

Be expecting a Cheezburger frontpage soon... (not by me :P))

And in the dark:

...turns out you can't see the bottom pair from that angle...oh well, it's there, I promise. :P

Haha sweet! I made something like that for my window too, except it only has 1 fan that blows out with some dryer hose connecting it to the litter box .

Pretty good. There's enough airflow through my office now that it's not nasty and muggy anymore. It doesn't move anywhere near as much air as a real box-fan though....but that was to be expected.

Real scratch, nice, I like the mind set of "What have I got around me that I can use to build something with" like if your life depended on it and it's often surprising what you can come up with.

You could make a shaped vent/nozzle to fit it so it focuses the air to a narrow area and point it at your PC chair when working to keep cool or maybe wear it like a hat like a big heatsink and have it drawing air away from you :D I really must get out more :?

maybe you should just place a large heatsink over your heart.

i tried that once with a coolermaster heatsink and after a couple minutes it felt like i was going to have a heart attack.

I must say, the lighted fans prevent a potential trip hazard.

They also make it so I don't have to turn on any lights to go to the bathroom at night... :whistler:
