I understand the need for allergy warnings on food products, I really do. It's obviously long been too much work for people to actually read the ingredients of a product to decide for themselves when something is or is not safe to eat!!! Having said that, I genuinely do appreciate that not all allergens are blatently obvious when reading ingredients however.....

Are we really SO dumb that they have to put both "Contains gluten and peanuts" AND "May contain traces of nuts" on a bag of peanuts?????
If my bag of peanuts DOESN'T contain BOTH nuts and traces of nuts, I want to know what the hell it is I bought!!!!

Guess that Utopian vision of the future where we evolve into super intelligent beings is looking pretty unlikely at this point...

If people are that dumb it's called "natural selection".

If only...
Our species is reproducing too fast for natural selection to keep up. Look at the people having 10 children just for the tax break but have no way of supporting them...:whistler: An old neighbor of mine had 18 kids! I never thought to sprinkle peanuts on them though.

Frequent grass-cutting is another good way to sort the chaff from the wheat. And keeping a few hive-fulls of angry bees couldn't hurt too... Allergies suck, I've been lucky enough to escape entirely unaffected by them which I'm very grateful for! It seems to be getting a lot more common with each generation that children have something they can't tolerate though. I mean seriously, milk? How can anyone not be able to drink milk! You were brought into the world on milk!!!
EDIT : Allergies are not being tolerated in the new generation I'm creating. My son sleeps in a box full of pollen and has a bowl of assorted nuts and 10 pints of milk for breakfast...
One of the un-allergic people, here.
I agree. Some allergies are ridiculous.
On a semi-related note, take a look at the germophobics. They have a "sanitized" life.
When they FINALLY head outside, they come home sicker than they've ever been.

Most likely because, having never been exposed, day-to-day, they have next to no naturally acquired resistance....
When I was growing up, I remember frequent news reports of an outbreak of this or that food poisoning but never any fatalities - more recently, the outbreaks seem to be more serious and more likely to kill. Maybe this is down to stronger and more potent strains, but I think it's as likely caused by the higher levels of cleanliness in our lives reducing our normal resilience...

Absolutely agree, our body's natural immune system is the best one there is. Can't be beat! Not by drugs and medicine, not by cotton wool and bubblewrap. The only way our bodies learn to fight serious conditions is by frequently roughing it up with more common ailments.
Since I've been old enough to choose for myself (I can't even remember when that was but way before leaving school!) I haven't taken a single type of medication for anything I've ever had. That's partly due to the fact I've not caught anything particularly nasty but mostly down to choice (plus it's my opinion that this is WHY I haven't suffered from anything nasty!)
I get colds once in a while but noone can dodge them forever. Never had a flu, never had a fever. Most serious complaint of recent years has probably been tonsillitis and that's because I refuse to lose my tonsils! It seems to be my achilles heel but do you know what I think even they can get stronger as I've been getting it less and less and as of writing this I can't actually remember my last episode ;)
And I'm actually partly serious about the sort of stuff my son is exposed to. I HATE neat freaks and that goes for parents too. He wants to play in the mud, so what? Let him! He enjoys it, I get some peace and he loves bath time! It'll do him the world of good in the long time. Same goes for everything, a child is born with no immunities and if they don't have a chance to develop them now they'll just suffer later. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon, and for the rest of their lives!
