the first phone support person i talked to was an idiot. i informed them i build computers, and i had isolated it to the network, and told them my methods. they ask. did you try rebooting your router? ... omfg. yes. *another minute goes by...* did you try clearing your internet history? are you kidding me.... last time i called you guys you sent a tech out.... okay, ill transfer you to an elevated level, who might be able to assist you better.... its some call center that offers there remote access computer repair services for 30 dollars a month. two year contract. the words i was feeling at the moment cannot well describe how mad i was that are allowed on here, so, ill just say i was pissed. on a side note, we need a face thats more angry than mad. we need a head that explodes.:dead: call back the next day, at least this person didn't have a horribly hard to understand accent. they get a mobile tech to come out scheduled for next day. he comes out, tests the lines, isolates the dsl line from the rest, replaces EVERYTHING, including my router. it still isn't working. goes out to the main box on the main road, changes stuff, and says, give it a day, if it doesn't work still then call me back and we will have to do a port switch. call him back, after a day or two of same issues.two to three days later, no call. call up att get to the 24 hour tech support, and thats where i am now. i can't tell you how frustrated i am. the first thing out of my mouth to the person on the line, was my story, and how comcast looks mighty nice atm. just now, i hung up with them. i was typing this all on hold till now. not while talking only on hold. and i dont type quick... and those photos took forever to upload on this att crap. they say they will do the port switch tomorrow, if its not fixed in the next day or two, im going to comcast... thier phone tech support is outsourced crap to people who input and output on a monitor with no knowledge. a while back, i called in, got sent somewhere in india. they wern't any help, i figured it out myself, as i was talking to a guy in billing. the guy in billing knew 5 times what the other tech support did. i am soooo MAD!

man this cox cable sure is sweet.

what with the 24 hour in state tech support and the most stable and fastest internet in town period.

not the fastest in town for the price

the fastest period.

yeah, in my town its att or cox, i went with cox. att couldnt even get the landline phone correctly set up. my cable bill is $200 a month, but ive got their premiere internet.

my previous town was worse off, centurylink(10mb) dsl or suddenlink(.5mb) cable.

Well!

We've got Cable1, Qwest, BridgeMaxx, PMT, Verizon, to name some. So you've got a lot of choices around here.

its like 20$ for there 1MB line. 35$ for there 3MB line 50$ for 5 and the ratio gets better the more you spend.

When you call them back, tell them to check the provisioning in their router. I'll bet that's where it's screwed up. Sending a tech out to change hardware or check lines isn't going to fix the fact that the line speed is screwed up in the router itself. They have to build a PVC, [permanent virtual circuit] for your account when you order it. That's where they configure the interface on their end with the vpi/vci settings (usually 8/0), encapsulation type (usually point to point over an ATM interface), username and password for PPPoE, and lastly line speed. Let me know how it goes.

i believe they checked that, but i will double check. the pvi or whatever.... he said something like that... in laymans terms, the pipes there, its just got no flow.... or whatnot... i dont remember exactly. trace said it was working earlier today. playing black ops just fine.... now i get this crap...

i had a crappy asus wifi card that caused my speeds to grind to a near halt like that on my htpc. i switched to a different wifi card and it squashed the speed issue.

Damn, that sucks...having to choose between poorly managed, malfunctioning, DSL and poorly managed, restricted, inherently flawed, cable...ouch.

Here I have three choices: Comcast cable, Verizon DSL, or Verizon FiOS. Guess which one I'm using. ;)

FiOS? lol...

I just signed with charter for my apartment, so we'll see how it goes. supposedly no bandwidth cap though. which is good, with 4 heavy gamers in the house...

Read a few posts back for what I have.
Do I go for $100 a month that includes phone and TV that we, as a family, would never use, or get ~$20 a month 4MB down, 1MB up 4G iNet?

Cale_Hagan, you have my sympathy. Because I live on the family farm in the sticks, my ISP choices are as follows: HughesNet, WildBlue or dial-up. That's it. I wish I could sign up with either the local DSL or cable provider, but apparently, I live exactly 1 mile outside the coverage radius of both companies. So, I pay HughesNet about $70.00 a month for service that is nominally 1.4Mbps down and 256kbps up, but I'll let the numbers speak for themselves:

yeah, man. i lived out in a similar situation for a while... we only had 26.4 kbps till about 3 years ago....then i moved.... haha
as to the connection issue, they disabled something with error correcting, and its working halfway decent atm.... if it starts acting up again, or worse, i will be switching to comcast...

Wow.
Good luck, Cale.

Kinda weird being bombarded with too many ISPs where I live.
