Many people think that the best processor, or the best motherboard is what lies at the heart of a custom built PC. The truth of the matter is, without the right Power Supply, it really doesn't matter what else you put in that dream rig of yours. An underpowered, or poor quality PSU WILL (not can, not might, WILL) lead to stability, noise, cooling and lifespan issues in the rest of your machine. Today we're going to take a look at our first ever Mushkin review sample. The 800W incarnation of the Joule PSU line. Good review, it's the first PSU I've seen that has the 6+2 PCIe power connectors so I guess the PSU manufacturers are anticipating some future graphics cards needing these connectors (what other cards would need them?) which is a bit confusing as I was thinking that as design architecture gets smaller in theory it would require less power :cgonfused:

Corsair PSUs have them.

I think it's just a case of covering all the bases - at "only" 800w this PSU doesn't have the raw grunt of some of the 1kw+ units - but by providing 4 connectors and allowing you to use any or all of them in either 6 or 8 pin, it covers every possibility. If, as you mention, power draw is expected to drop, then it's entirely possible that we'll see future high-end video cards with a single power connector and a low draw which could well make this PSU quad GPU ready.
