View Full Version : EVERYONE with an Android device!!

A user copied my app, gave it a facelift then re-upped it under his own account. If that wasn't enough, he rated my app a 1 star then commented that my app sucks and to check out Drag Racing Elite. The nerve of this cut throat POS, advertising on my app.
I ask of anyone who has an android device to please go into the market and search Drag Racing Elite and report his app as "other" then type something along the lines of "stolen information" or "ripped off Drag Racing Pro Setups."
Please.

And i assume this is yours?

well i can't write a review as phones are a expensive devil at the moment.
But i sure thumbs down'd every comment he made and gave you some thumbs up,retweet and +1'd
Should also be aware that the majority of the users who've given you a 1 star rating are indeed other false accounts by him, the same users gave the other guys app 5 stars and a "amazing" review while giving yours a single star and a terrible review.
I'd point those things out and file a copywrite claim
http://www.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=ts.cs&ts=1114905
There is the link to file a copyright claim against another developer. Google takes CRI/DMCA very...very...very seriously. i had a user re-post one of my revenue sharing videos (100% my content) found out about it, used that support link to file a claim.
video was blocked, then removed then the user's account was banned all in the matter of about 4 hours. then i received a email stating that the problem had been solved.

I'll try and look at it later when I boot up the Nook.
It does suck, and is a pretty low thing to do. But unless he stole code, it is pretty much part of what happens. It's common, in all markets, to have a competitor try to design a "better" product. And on Android/iOS, UI is a big portion of how an app does with the customer base. If there is something that is easy on the eyes and easier to navigate and do what you want, they are going to go for that product.
But competition aside, it's pretty sleazy to drop feedback just to say "Oh go check out mine. This one sucks. Mine is so much better". But it honestly doesn't surprise me as a large majority of people in the world just suck monkey balls in general.

It says your app is 4.6M and his is only 82K? How does that work? Do you put in your own info? I'm not a dev so wouldn't know.
There is no doubt I think he stole it, just asking.

The app I used to put it together is notorious for large files. He probably used Eclipse then plugged in my numbers. Thanks guys for the info and support. I have bills to pay, I really hope I don't take a big hit because of this prick.

use that link above and start a claim, they ought to side with you, and practically if you can prove its your content in any small way they'll side with you, and his only choice will be to hire a team of lawyers and go through the court process for filing a counter-claim.
which im assuming hes not going to do judging by his high school business tactics.

I hope that my statement above didn't come across the wrong way. If he/she stole your data in any way, (s)he's a twat. I hadn't looked at the apps to know whether or not that happened. I was simply referring to not getting too upset if it was simply a competing product, especially as being new-ish to application development. By the sound of it though he/she took your data, which is low.
In the future, you might want to look into some code obfuscators. Java is notoriously easy to reverse engineer because it can very easily be decompiled. IDK how Android apps are distributed, but if you can apply obfuscation before packaging it, it will make it harder for something like this to happen in the future.

I was thinking the same thing. Again, I haven't looked at the apps, but it seems like they present / generate builds for certain cars / levels. If it's just straight up presentation of the data to the user, someone else just has to copy the output and write an app that outputs the same thing. No amount of obfuscation will stop an app like that if you are giving the critical data the app is based on to the user. But I could be wrong on my assumption of how the app operates.

It's just straight up presentation of the data. There's not really another way to go about it with this app in particular. I e-mailed him and it was in fact a kid from his "team."
Now he's asking me to take down my note in my description saying "NOTE: Don't be fooled by a pretty face! Our app has been copied by another user. Please rate and comment, it's very much appreciated."

The market has gone run amok with my idea so it's going downhill fast. It's a shame, I was saving to expand on my app business to ultimately save for my dream business of making knives.
Jobs in SD are ridiculous. If you don't have years of experience, a degree or brush shoulders with higher ups... you're looking at minimum wage. I've decided to look into law enforcement or go back to the military since my dreams have been blown to hell by copy-cat opportunists.
Since it's release I have ported over to iTunes, revamped the UI and spent a ton of money on giveaways to give back to (hopefully) my supporters. It just so happens others who run forums, websites, or youtube channels have launched a mini hate campaign by simply leaving false 1 star reviews, sharing my information, etc...
Sad day for me today though all along I knew this wouldn't last forever... I just wish the timing was a little better. :\

There's always some douchebag out there who's trying to eat your lunch. My brother in law does electronics, and there's an idiot online who basically duplicates anything he does. Most people in the circles he's with realize this nonsense and don't take too kindly to it, but definitely the people who are after the specific products and don't know better end up with the other guy.

I wouldn't say it's a direct knock off in this case. Your Brother in law made the task of making sure he doesn't just use a microcontroller, the 'knock-off' uses a microcontroller and a sensor, and also uses less bulbs to save on cost. People can come up with the same idea without knowing about the other product.
Example, I decided to create a new micro controller board for an RC Transmitter, after picking the micro controller I was basing the project around, I discovered that there are 2 other boards with the same idea. Did I copy them? The answer is dependant on where you look. People will probably say I've ripped off the developers of the other boards (I'm using a different micro controller) and should be shot. The reality is that during my continued research, I found other boards which did similar functions to what I was planning, I even looked into just using their boards, but decided what I wanted to do is not what they designed their boards to do (also I'm designing another board, and this board is sort of a practice run for that).

Yes, it's not an exact knockoff. But the timing of it was within a month of his being released. My brother in law was pioneering in that regard. Nobody else had come up with the idea of a nixie wristwatch due to the high power involved. His has some serious engineering behind it. The knockoff is, well, second fiddle.
Somebody totally duplicating your work is pretty lame though.

I'm not doubting that at all, I am saying that people can have the same/similar ideas at the same/similar times.

This could be purely coincidental, but it also might not be. I'm a little sceptical of the situation, but I can understand why your brother in law is annoyed, I would be annoyed too. But there must have been work for the other person as well as they're using a microcontroller, not 'passive' components.

Leibniz and Newton simultaneously discovered modern calculus. Napier and Burgi independently invented logarithms. There have been many cases like this throughout history, for major inventions, and otherwise.
But, those who are clearly ripping another's ideas / work / data without making improvements or changes are frustrating. Sometimes that line is hard to find. What seems at first glance to be a copy could also be an entirely independent work.

(I hate to advertise my own stuff but if you wouldn't mind a little help, please read.)
A new fun app has literally just been added. It's to be used in conjunction with "PicSay", a mobile photo editing tool for Android. The concept is simple: Picsay allows you to add pictures over pictures or insert clip-art images so why not have a bundle of pre-cut --real picuture-- overlays?
There are quite a bit of real images but also included a lot of Meme photos so users could be creative and make their own on their Android based phone or tablet.
This isn't a plea for money... I just believe you would be the best people to give me true feedback. The app is the PicSay app in the link below. If you purchase please send me a pm with your name and I'll issue a refund for your beta testing and support. Please do NOT leave false feedback for a forum member. If you believe it's 5 stars of fun, by all means rate... if it's anything less, please PM me before hand so I can understand why so I can fix it.

Thank you so much in advance.
EDIT: I made it free with no ads. Still would greatly appreciate feedback.
