need help picking dvd drive for laptop

Hey guys im working on a laptop for a guy i work with sister may get a lot more business if this goes well . The dvd drive has gone bad .

Here is the drive i think should fit and work in it can someone verify for my nerves sake need to order as soon as i can thanks in advance.

well, obviously the first thing you need to do is remove the old drive and see if it is sata or pata. you don't want to jump the gun and order something wrong. after that, it looks like any regular slim line drive should work. if it's sata, i'd pull a cool maneuver and get a slot load drive. just cuz it would be cool. lol.

ok now this getting crazy the keyboard and pad quit working device manager looks like no driver try re install nothing external keyboard will not work external USB DVD drive.

will not work a usb mouse will thats its was getting werfault error disabled error reporting now i can at least install some stuff . any ideas is vista 64 bit .

download a linux live cd like ubuntu or puppy linux and boot off that to see if the keyboard and pad work. if so then you know it's a windows problem and not a hardware problem.

i finally got the keyboard problem fixed now my issue is the cd drive dosent recognized cds . tried uninstalling re installing nothing i spins up but nothing .
The part that really confuses me is an external USB CD DVD drive will not work either when i plug it in says installing went fine but will not show up in my computer or anything . works fine on all other pcs . any ideas on this one .I don't really wont to take this laptop down that far to change drive if i don't have too. the laptop dvd drive shows up not external just pointing that out lol
