So, I traded in those two xbox cases that I painted today. The guy runs a video game store, and he gave me five cases complete with the innards. I'm sure that with the 5 cases and guts that I have, I might be able to put together a working system. What are some of the better xbox repair sites out there?

DIY? I'd say figure out what each one is suffering from... RROD is fixable by reflow alone usually. google 360 repair or 360 reflow and a list of symptoms and fixes will pop right up.

Definitely DIY. The one case is marked E74 error.. It looks like a reflow on the GPU might be an easy fix. I need to find a cheap (read: free) power source.

the psu's are Forward compatable, make sure to get one of the first generation ones. original one is 203watts, but you can identify them easily with this link: http://www.360-hq.com/xbox-tutorials-91.html

actually have alot of good info on their main tutorial page :http://www.360-hq.com/xbox-tutorials.html

What about open tray errors? I never could fix mine, I ended up killing my box with a shotgun (literally) out of frustration. Learning to fix open tray would be cool.

Another good site for tutorials and sometimes parts (read: can be pricey) is llamma.com. I've used it a lot when chipping my original Xbox for a NAS project and I've read through a lot of their 360 guides and they seem comprehensive. I'm not doing anything to my 360 as I can't afford to replace it if I kill it. Good luck on fixing some of those!

I used to fix a lot of Xbox 360s when I ran a store.

Reflow fix works, so does the "Xclamp" fix.

I prefer the Xclamp fix because it solves the problem at the source.

http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/ring_of_light_x-clamp_fix.htm

It surprsingly fixes some e74 errors too.

Thanks for the info guys. Once I get a psu I'll try some of these.

A reflow will fix e74, but in my experience it doesnt last very long.
