This is my first post, I want to know if this has ever been done before? I want to put an LCD monitor inside my case where the side window is. This would make it easier to transport my rig to LAN parties and such. Here is a concept image:

But that doesnt mean it can't be done again and improved upon..

How did you conect the VGA cable to the video card? Did you go around to the outside of the case? Im really interested in this, is there a workblog somewhere?

Sorry.. its not my project. I just saw it on Gruntville a little while back. I didn't see a worklog but, here is the discussion thread about it.. http://www.gruntville.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11967&highlight=sideview

In the gallery I posted earlier there are pictures in a sub album called Worklog Pics, you might be able to find your answer in there.

Good luck and hope this helps.

the only problem i see with that is maybe a cooling issue., having the monitors heat, and the heat of the system in the same case. but i guess its working fine, casue as noted before, its been done

I can't believe I forgot that Defyant did that as well!!! But there you go, another REALLY good example.

I think Boddaker had the same idea in mind for long periods of use by having the door the monitor was mounted on swing open.

I've seen it done in the computer modder edition of CPU I think... like a year ago... but it is still a cool idea.

thanks guys, sadly my monitor (15 inch) is too small to fit in my side window (20 inch) opening . So I will have to wait until I get a bigger screen or a smaller case.

Can't you replace the side cover? Make something out of sheet aluminium and cut the perfect sized hole in it? Or even easier, use the existing cover with a flat aluminium plate fastened to it. Either inside or out.

I was thinking of doing something like that. I was going to use a different form factor though. I was thinking of making it a horizontal case (I don't really like horizontal cases, but I think in this case it would be nice). When you turn it on the front of the case would open (sort of) and the monitor and keyboard would slide out (along with the mouse) and the monitor would then rotate up. I was thinking this would be a good lan case. I am going to post the idea in it's own topic, but yeah, It seems similar to what you are doing.

I think if you look closely at Defyant's mod you'll see his montior doesn't take up the whole window either. Its a very cool mod.

That background makes the mod even better. Awesome idea.
