Also the service i keep hearing its terrible what is everyones thoughts on this? Please share any info you might have. Id greatly appreciate it.

I used a sister/daughter company when I was in Las Vegas, Cox Communication. I went over the cap every month, but my speed never went down nor did I get charged more nor did they call and complain.
Still, I only used Cox because it was not officially Comcast. I hate data caps and refuse (as long as I have any other alternative) to go to an isp that has them, even if it is much slower internet.

the cap is 256 gb tho. i dont think i could exceed that in a month even if i tried.

I've got Comcast and I could pull twice that just downloading my Steam games.
I haven't had any problems with Comcast. Prices are a bit high, and I'd rather upgrade to a business class tier, but it works. I originally paid for 12Mbit, but regularly pull ~30Mbit on speedboost, and hit a low of about 23Mbit.
I can count the number of outages I've had in the last four+ years on one hand. I wanted to get FIOS, and even though it's offered here and the Verizon building is directly across the street we can't get any more than basic DSL because of a deal the complex has with Comcast.

I think you would surprise yourself. You might not get close with normal internet use and some youtube and streaming music but . . .
put in a steam game purchase every now and then, almost constant netflix use, and other large media, and you quickly reach the cap.
Comcast and these other companies have a hidden agenda. They want you to get used to the cap so that they can either charge you more or get you to buy the expensive cable service they also provide. Many of these companies, including Comcast, own studios that make television programs or movies.
A cap to me is not about "clogged tubes" or "bandwidth hogs," it's about trying to preserve an old model that's quickly dying out. How are we ever supposed to get to 1080p streaming with caps (or 4k for that matter)? How are we supposed to get to a point where services like OnLive are actually competitive and good? It will probably happen, but much more slowly.
The reason I mention 4k above is because that's where we're headed, but we probably all think that streaming 4k is ridiculous. Well, it is, but it's going to stay that way as long as ISPs have little incentive to increase data speed.

/\This.
Try running DU meter for a month (it's free for 30 days) and see how much traffic you actually use. You might be surprised....and imagine how much more you would use if you had a faster connection.

I completly agree with you d stilger about the cap. Ill try that program.last time i checked just in torrents i was at 30gbs. Im not sure if online gaming and just surfing goes into affect or not. I didnt really want to wait a month.
Although their Comcast has an internet "cap" it does take some serious video watching or DLing to hit it. Last month was the first time we actually almost passed it (249 out of 250gb)...my brother and I managed to stream about 80 shows, about 50% of them being HD and a few movies, in a little over two weeks which really pushed us over our normal use. Usually my family only averages about 150-170gb a month, so the remaining ~100gb came from Netflix streaming.

I would be scared if thats the case, I stream a TON of shows, probably an average of 5-10 a day, plus my roommates doing the same, i'd say we hit 500 a month easy...
Wow 500...yea I don't think 250gb/month would be enough lol

I don't have television or cable tv.
Streaming content is the only form of television i have. and having saved almost 70$ a month and getting to see about 99% of the same content i always watch anyways im not missing it.
And besides whenever i go over to a persons house and watch cableTV. Its the exact same crap from when i had cableTV so apparently im not missing much.

same here. lol... well... i lied, because at the moment its actually $5 cheaper to get cable and internet than it is to get just internet. (introductory offer, and im cancelling as soon as that price goes away)
I really don't miss cable, because pretty much every show is online the day after it airs, and i can watch it on my own time, in high def, and pause it if i feel like it.
