From what I saw:
FF 4.0.
Month later:
4.1
And another:
5.0
Again?:
6.0

Anyone have any ideas why we went from 3.6 to 6.0 in less than a year?

I cannot remember the reasoning, but I do remember hearing that FF 7 will be out by November IIRC.

They made some drastic changes to their release schedule. I remember seeing an article explaining it somewhere...*goes off to search Ars* Ah. Here we go.

I had the same wtf moment this week - we're due FF9 by December. Change in the versioning number scheme is all really..

I heard that they're going to be making rapid modifications and want to do away with the entire version naming scheme altogether. So you won't have version 6, 7, or 8...you'll just have 'the latest version'. If you don't have the latest version you'll be gently pestered until you do. I don't have the link to the article anymore.

Hmm, makes sense. Moving to a more seamless upgrade system. That's the way Chrome works; no version numbers on the install/etc, it just automatically updates itself when it needs to.

I keep getting the "upgrade to 6.0" popups, but of course my add-ons aren't compatible! I'll upgrade once my addons will work :D
