I'm fairly new to modding and I'm looking to put a window in. I've got my dremel in hand and I've got the cut alreadys masked off but I'm confused.

If I put molding around the edge, won't the plexi be farther in than the case panel? (Can't seem to explain it well) Does the molding 'squish' on the inside of the case to make the plexi flush with the panel or...?

Most people these days just avoid molding altogether. If you're new to modding, have a look here (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=138&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0) but i'd recommend at least reading Aero's beginners guide (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2403), as he gives a great reason why to avoid using molding.

Personally, i'd use epoxy or screws to hold that bad boy in!

Good luck, happy modding ;)

I just glue my windows to the back of the case panel with plumbers goop. Once it dries, it holds forever, and metal to plastic is no problem.

i tried epoxy and didnt have much luck. as soon as i flexed the panel the window edges lifted off the glued area. what i have been useing if you can find this is something called a button head screw. its small kind of looks like a rivot. it takes a hex key to tighten it. its a metric machine screw.

You should have tried clamps man. Maybe your mix was off? I've never heard of epoxy not sticking stuff...but i have heard it sticking everything to everthing!

It may well stick, but it's not so flexible. Anyone tried double sided sticky tape? That ought to work. Button head screws would look good, so would socket head cap screws.

They always look good.

Believe it or not hot glue works too. And with the proper leverage it can come off for future mods, but if you hit the windows or knock it the shearing force may make it fall off, but generaly it holds very well. I used it to finish up my One Day mod (see sig) and it hasn't fallen off since.

I've used rivets before, but you have to be careful about drilling into plexi. It'll crack fairly easily.

If you want a good cheap clean way of doing it, try some silicone based glue.
Make sure to test on scrap first for any chemical interaction effects.

for drilling if you have access to it, try useing a cobalt drill bit. i use that in a drillpress and it goes right through like butter.

as for useing rivots. if you really must go that way rather then small bolts make sure that you use the kind of rivots that are used on aluminum as the steel ones take too much pressure to pop and may crack your plex. also remember to leave enough space between the edge of your plex and the hole for strength

See, you can't get good info like that anywhere else.

Next time I drill into plexi I will keep cobalt bits in mind.

usually when i am going to drill what i do is i duct tape my plex to my steel side panel make sure its in the proper place drill the corners first through the steel into the plex so that the burs end up not pokeing out on the outside of the case. then i pop some bolts in the holes to keep it exactly where i want it and drill the rest the same way. remember to use a deburing tool if you have one after your all done
