View Full Version : Playing around with fire a bit this weekend
Just a couple test panels. The blue is Wicked Colors Detail white, and Auto Air Candy Blue. For the other panel, I used candy yellow and candy red to make a candy orange (again, all Auto Air). In the side picture, I'm trying to get the pearl I mixed in with the violet to pop. No clear, these will probably get sanded.

Looks awesome! What do you use for clearcoat? If it's not rattle can try mixing a little pearl powder in the clear for a nice pop. I have a friend who painted his truck pearl white and put a faint trace of pink pearl in the clear, straight on and in bright light it wasn't very noticable but at an angle or at sunset WOW.
If I'm just messing around, I'll use a rattlecan, but for good projects, I take it to a friend who has a body shop for regular 2k clear. I need to break down and buy some for myself.

Man i saw a thing where this guy was using circle stencils to spray off the inside edges of the flames. (you know where the fire "licks" come off from)
looked ridiculous.
That is a bad a@# job man. Almost wonder what it would look like if you used that color changing paint in alternating directions and layers so you'd come out with like a 5 colored flame from any angle you look from.
sorta like this but more complex

Thanks twigs. That's a neat idea. I asked Auto Air for some of their gem shift colors. Haven't heard back yet though. I used a little bit of stencil on the red panel, but I also have a lot of freehand over it.

You have a talent sir, your flames are awesome.
Thanks man. I really enjoy doing these. Gotta keep myself in practice ya know. I got an email from auto air. They shipped a package to me yesterday. I have no idea what's in it though lol.

Looks amazing and that stuff is pretty cool. I think you can even spray it over a base color like red or orange or what ever. (not sure how that paint works)
I also have a lot of freehand over it.
It shows!
oh check these guys out

Its the flake itself that you can add into any clear coat you want.
The videos for it are pretty impressive.
Alsa has some really cool stuff. I know Tony has been talking to them a bit lately. I got a set of the Gem Shift colors today. Sapphire, ruby, jade, turquoise. I tried some of the sapphire, and I'm uploading a video of it to my youtube channel.. youtube.com/sgtm1775. It looks really cool even without clear on it yet!

pretty cool looking.
you ought to airbrush some flames onto a panel with that gem shoot it with clear and see how it shifts.
I might even try a Orange type color as the base and shoot that ruby to get that pumpkin/cinnamon type color with the yellow and red hues.
