Dumb question I know but I haven't kept up on hardware in a long time.
Does anyone know what the current Flagship Intel socket type is? I might be looking to start collecting parts for a new PC in the next month or so and was wondering what socket type to go with for an I7 build. I would prefer something that i can expect to be a safe bet for at least the next couple years.

1155 seams to have the most support
1156
1366 is the highest number which would seem to imply it was the latest but it seems to have less support (in terms of available boards) than 1155 and i thought i read somewhere that it wasn't going to be sticking around to long.

It was so easy when it was just 775. lol

1155. It wasn't easier at the end of 775 unless you knew what you needed, as there were several gens through 775, and many cpu's wouldn't work in an older motherboard.

At least now, if its a 1155 cpu it will work in a 1155 motherboard.

Also, what's the difference between 1155 and 1156? Besides one pin?

The 1155 pin are the Sandy Bridge series.

The upcoming Ivy bridge (http://www.techradar.com/news/computing-components/processors/intel-ivy-bridge-vs-sandy-bridge-tech-insight-1026232) apparently will be the same 1155 socket too
