I've been running this through my head since the begining of the year. I knew that AMD would soon be releasing an eight core CPU code-named: Bulldozer. I also knew that I had to do a tribute mod too.
I hoping to get with the stores' AMD rep and maybe acquire a sponsorship from AMD once the chip is released. Then I can fill it with components and display it in the store for customers to gawk at. :)
My very first sketches have always started with the Cooler Master HAF 912.
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/haf912.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090211.jpg
Within a few minutes I quickly stripped the whole thing down
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090218.jpg
My choice of paint just has to be John Deere Yellow
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090215.jpg
And it goes on easy and looks incredible
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090220.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090221.jpg
I always love to have strong contrasting colors within the case
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090226.jpg
I also strive for color consistency with matching bay drive covers too
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090227.jpg
Then I stack two Cooler Master 120mm fans for the intake
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090228.jpg
I didn't recolor the black plastic because it was already perfect
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090235.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090238.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090241.jpg
I'll be customizing the right panel next

Nice start.. The HAF 912 is a great choice, but when I read the title, it just seemed like this case would have been a better fit.. :)

Gotcha.. I was looking at Fuga's Carbon XBOX windows and thinking that would look really cool on this case with the yellow and the black.

Time to work on the right panel. I'm going to be adding a couple of intake fans. The first is a slim 120mm behind the processor
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090248.jpg
I cut from the inside out as to not damage the paint if I lose control of the hole saw
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090250.jpg
My fan of choice is usually made by Scythe
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090249.jpg
Here it is mounted. Because I went with a larger 120mm fan, I'll need to put the panel on first then screw it in place. The size of the fan interferes with the panels' slide latch
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090252.jpg
I'll dress up the outside soon enough
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090253.jpg
But first I'll need to cut out a spot for a 92mm fan behind the hard drive cage. Unfortunately, I don't have a hole saw that size available just yet...

I was thinking....
I've asked this question to some people that I work with and they all have the same answer. When you see a bulldozer how does it look? Everyone says that it looks terrible. Rusted, dirty, chipping paint, and abused. Why would I make this case appear as anything different than how a real bulldozer looks?
I've decided to roughen it up a bit. I'll sand the paint off in some areas, and I'll be adding some stripes to break up the plain yellow patterns too.

Bill Owen always said to use a red scotch brite pad to rough up paint. But he always did it in his videos when the paint was curing. Not already dried.

What about rust? Is there an easy way to simulate it?
Fuganater
09-21-2011, 01:27 PM
Bill has a video on that. He used a store bought "rust paint set". It has 2 different types that you paint on.
IDK how it will look in pieces but I know it looks good on a whole case. Might have to airbrush on the sections of rust.

i have to give the same advice i always do on "weathering" effects. check out what the model railroaders use for weathering the locomotives and cars. there are some amazing and easy to use rust products out there. just remember that a lot of times less is more.

I went to a ghetto K-Mart in Saint Louis.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I used several rivets to attach the case to the treaded base
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090263.jpg
But then I realized that I choked off the PSU's air intake
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090264.jpg
So, I decided to drill out the holes in the plastic. I can't quite get the drill into all of the holes, but I'll have a really awesome power supply provided by Enermax that will have no trouble getting enough air

I know. There's still more to do everywhere
-------------------------------------------
I bought a new 92mm hole saw
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090266.jpg
And then cut the second intake
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090267.jpg

The hard drive intake is perfect, but the CPU wound up being a bit off
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090269.jpg
I added the vent. I still need to bondo the edges and paint the hinges yellow
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090272.jpg
I'll still have to paint the other grill yellow too

I bought this bulldozer shovel off ebay. It came from a Tonka T-9.
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090286.jpg
As you see it'll be a perfect fit
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090287.jpg
First I trimmed off the excess.....
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090289.jpg
.....to make it attach to the front bezel and not the side panel. That way it won't interfere with the sliding door
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090290.jpg
I spent a while sanding off the 40 year old paint and rust
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090294.jpg
Then gave it a nice smooth coat of new black paint
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090295.jpg
Next I'll be cutting the panel striping
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090292.jpg
And adding the number 8 to the left panel. What do you think it signifies?

I'm using this putty stuff that turns to near steel when dry
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090308.jpg
Once cut and molded, I roll it into long strings like putty
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090311.jpg
And place it along the vent edges
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090312.jpg
Once dry, it'll get painted yellow as well and appear to be welding seams
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090313.jpg
Now I have to finish the striping. I'm using sport stripes for a car. I cut it out into three 40mm strips
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090315.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090316.jpg

So I figured out what cooling I'll be using...
The Swiftech H20-220 Edge Liquid Cooling Kit (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0350318) is something we sell in the store for $309. I want all of the parts in this case to be things customers can buy in the store and not have to go to Newegg

Not a bad idea, maybe work could spring for it?

Because of work I have my AMD and Gigabyte sponsors

I know Swiftech isn't doing sponsorships right now, nor is Danger Den or Koolance, just FYI. Bitspower and EK are to a point, Bitspower is no good unless you have 6 months to wait for them lol.

No biggie.
I already have the OCZ Revo Hybrid, the Radeon 6950, and the 16GB of RAM. I still have to buy the motherboard and W/C kit and the PSU hasn't yet arrived. The entire component build and W/C install will be coming once it's all here.
I promise.

Interesting.. it looks like some of the FX-8150's will be coming with a liquid cooler.

Probably an option with an additional cost of course, but interesting at least.
Now, remember what I said about Processor Engineering Samples.....

Enermax came through with three 120mm TB Silence fans
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090501.jpg
And a new 850 watt 80 Platinum PSU
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090502.jpg
I changed out my front intake fans
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090506.jpg
And the rear exhaust
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090509.jpg
I even removed the top 200mm fan, because I will be needing that space for two 120mm fans on my radiator
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090510.jpg
I've been thinking in advance about the length of my video card being 11 inches
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090512.jpg
And how it's just not going to fit
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090513.jpg
Since I won't be using the hard drive bay, I removed it
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090514.jpg
Much better

I 've been wanting to add an AMD logo to the front of the case
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090507.jpg
So, I cut one out.

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090518.jpg
And my processor was added for safe keeping
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090520.jpg
My power supply had this sticker on top of it, but that's not gonna match

Those treads look way way way less "I'm a tonka truck toy" with some paint on them.
You thought about adding some small LED flood lights like you usually see on contruction equipment?

And installed in the PCIe 4X slot

The video card is ready too

Corsair sent me a gift that I couldn't resist
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090623.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090625.jpg

I run all the cable through the backplate and connect them to the green extensions
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090627.jpg
Corsair wanted me to have their new Vengeance Keyboard and mouse. They won't be available in the states till December
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090620.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090622.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090617.jpg
I was even able to get the hard drive cage back in place. Funny thing is, I won't be using any standard hard drives
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090633.jpg
The main power, CPU 12V and the PCIe lines are already attached, so I only have to add one SATA and one Molex line
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090635.jpg
The lone molex line is only for the fanbus, which is where my lights and a single intake fan will be controlled
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090661.jpg
I'll be using this low tac film to protect the backs of the video card and PCIe solid state drive. They'll act as a substrate.
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090662.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1090664.jpg
Then I glue construction paper to the film
