I've got a user with Adobe Premiere Pro, who is having all kinds of stability problems.

Does anyone here have any experience with it, or with video editing in general, who could give some suggestions for hardware?

The system is a Dell T3500, with a Xeon cpu, 12gb ram, and a Quadro 4800fx. Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit, with sp1.

Adobe Premiere Pro CS5

Help!

Drivers updated, card swapped (had a different one previously), SP1 installed, lots of harddrive space, etc.

The system will hang and then crash when he's trying to animate a static image; there is some mention of similar issues online, but none of the suggested fixes work.

At this point, I might just try swapping in a 6850 to see if that helps, but if it's software or config, I'd like to try that first.

My first suspicion would be RAM. I don't believe Premiere Pro has GPU acceleration like After Effects or Photoshop. In cases like After Effects there are a couple of things to try such as there is a setting to enable GPU rendering and which subsystem to use such as OpenGL. I couldn't find any of these settings in Premiere Pro so I am not 100% sure. I had some problems with AE and enabling OpenGL smoothed it out for me.

As it turns out, the problem was an update for Premiere.. 5.0.3 needed to be installed in order to resolve it.

The system is only running around 8gb ram usage during editing, so I think we are safe with 12gb for now anyways. :)

This thread can be closed, unless we want to turn it into a general video editing support/troubleshooting thread...
