I just recently got a virus and had to do a reinstall because of it. I backed up all the stuff I wanted to keep: pictures, music, my portfolio, programs that I programmed, my flash animations... Well I got bored and I was going to work on my portfolio website some more and realized I had yet to get stuff off my 3rd backup disk. That was the one that had the stuff I created in it. The animations, the art, the portfolio, my programs... I opened it and windows can't recognize any of the files. I think it got corrupted. The bottom line is I need the stuff off of this disk. Please help me. :?
Here is a screen shot.

looks like you just need to do a little work and reassociate some extensions with an appropriate application. right click and use 'open with' to select an app. If you used a specific backup app, try reloading the volume in that to see if you can rip the files out.

yeah from the sreenshot i would say they are not associated with a program therefore double clicking on them wont do anything. make sure the programs that use those files are installed. if opening them with the right programs still doesnt work, then you have problems:)

I just tried open with and it says.
"Windows cannot open this file:
File: rayne.psd.nco

To open this...."
It's a psd. I looked and every file has the extension .nco
I don't understand I've never seen this before...

Edit: I found it. But I don't have Nero to uncompress it all.

Extension: .NCO
BackItUp Compressed Backup File
(CD burning/design software) If you right click the file and select "Open with Nero BackItUp Restore", you will get a conventional "Save as..." dialog box from which you can save the file uncompressed and with its normal extension in whichever location you choose.

there you go. you need a program to open it with.

How did you back it up?

ack ack

you try a work around by deleting the .nco extension to see if the file(s) will reassociate with photoshop. unless the backup app converted the data, this should work. otherwise you would still need the nero app to reopen it.

Apparently I used Nero Backitup. I'll have to try ack ack's suggestion when I get home.
