I'm not going to entirely give away the theme. Only go off of what I have in my head and will show things as they are finished :)

Some of you know that I enjoy sports cars and sportbikes. So I will only mention that I have some inspiration from that particular area. Hopefully the name can give some of that way.

:whistler:

That said... parts have started to arrive and all good mods must start with good hardware.

Today's part that arrived

For future reference are there any west coast modding suppliers? Waiting on xoxide shipping is like:

I prefer Performance-pcs over Xoxide. 3 days from them in FL to me in MA. Placed an order Saturday, shipped Monday, UPS say it'll be here Thursday :D

xoxide is west coast based...

I'll try Performance-pcs next. I found out why the shipping takes so long on xoxide, they use that fedex smart ship thing. Where fedex ships it to the post office who then delivers it to me. I realize this is not xoxide's issue specifically, but actually the way fedex ships the darn package, but maybe they could try different shipping? It'll all cost about the same I'd assume. I didn't see another shipping option when I bought it, so it may be that perhaps I am blind and I missed it, if there was, by now I'd have gladly paid for it lol.

I will only rant this one bit then it's onto progress:

I live in Oregon. Just so this makes sense.

WHAT? So you ship it to send it to oregon, then to washington to then be re-delivered by usps? So it's being delivered to be delivered.

Anyway on the report of progress.

Computer components are assembled. Going to test fit in case first, enjoy the fastness that lies within and then back to modding ;)

What happened to computers being hard to put together?

How it was back in the day:

- Don't cross power supply to motherboard or fry it
- Set jumpers across motherboard to correct values
- Wait, that doesn't go here, that goes here
- Doh, wait a minute... that's not right, THIS goes here, those cables look so similar
- Go through specific process of going through installation values of the OS
- Go through rigorous nuisance of ensuring all drivers have no issues.
- Spend more time going through drivers
- Bluescreen
- Go into safe mode, uninstall crap drivers, find out something is set wrong.
- Correct setting.
- Restart
- Oh finally

Now:

- Plug everything into pretty color matched places
- Start up computer
- Insert installation CD
- Set time zone and clock settings.
- Click next a lot
- Install drivers if you really have to
*yawn*

Spaghetti anyone?

A touch better, trust me, i'm far from done.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd58/koihoshi/casemods/highperformance/DSC_0405.jpg

But it works :)
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd58/koihoshi/casemods/highperformance/DSC_0404.jpg

Few bugs to work out with a reboot cycle it's doing on rare occasion. The system itself is super stable, but it's only upon hitting reset, or telling it to restart it would do it. It hasn't done it since windows 7 is now installed, which I find very odd. It is possible it was software induced.

The system runs VERY quiet. It's almost eerie. And it runs so cold???? I'd think a quad core would be singing hot but apparently not. My last computer ran hot, pretty dang hot. It just seems like it isn't even trying. I like it!

I remember my first computer as a kid... my first gaming machine. A Pentium 233mmx with 128mb of ram, pc100 mind you. 20gb hard drive (man that was a lot back then) and windows 95. That machine played starcraft and jedi knight like a freaking champ.

If someone would have told me "In x years you'll be using a computer that is 15x faster, but not only that, it'll be that x4 cores! And 128mb of ram? You'll have 8gb and that'll be normal..." I'd have taken a big dump in my pants right then and there.

Also, random note, was it intentional that your name is CorsePerVita but the thread's title says CorsePerCita?

It does?

CorsePerVita

Crap, it does! I tried to edit it and it won't. :( Calling a mod? Any mod? Mod? :)

Time to sleeve those cables!

>< don't say that, you make me want to break down and sleeve my cables! but single braid sleeving is expensive >>

Fuganater
10-12-2011, 12:28 PM
Can't call a mod "High Performance" and not sleeve it lol.

Actually Aldersan its not expensive at all. MDPC-X is only $.22 per foot.

Aldersan
10-12-2011, 12:31 PM
Yeah I checked out the pricing, I think for me it would turn out to be around $70-80 if I was doing all my math right, plus I don't have a crimper ><

Which is still fairly expensive overall :P

Don't worry I'll be sleeving. I'm not done with the wiring yet. Just laying things out and getting the machine "working" as it is right now so that when the case mod is done I can just plug everything back in and be good to go.

I've run into some trouble. Apparently the BIOS with these motherboards has a known issue with resets. Apparently every so often when the machine reboots or restarts it will go into an infinite loops of powering itself on and off until you hold down power to power it down.

I thought I had it fixed, but then I got "bootmgr not installed" errors. They're sata drives so I was baffled, if I loaded with the cd in, windows 7 loaded. If I didn't it wouldn't...

I thought "That makes no sense." so I made the drive primary master and suddenly it worked. Strange...

I flashed the bios to fix the reboot error and it fixed it. After some testing it no longer does that, but now no matter what I get "Bootmgr not installed" and now it won't boot to 7 with the cd in, but instead just wants to boot from the cd. I have a feeling something is wrong with mbr. I'll fix it later.

Aldersan

Could just be a funky bios setting too, I had that issue the other day after flashing a new bios on my mobo.

CorsePerVita
10-12-2011, 11:03 PM
I checked a lot of known issues, the reboot was a known issue fixed in a bios update.

The boot loader not installed, however, I am having a hell of a time figuring out. If I have to reinstall 7 again I will, I might even try it on another drive.

Aldersan
10-12-2011, 11:05 PM
is your boot order resetting every bootup? thats what was happening to mine, it was trying to start off of either a secondary drive or a random cd/dvd that was in the drive

CorsePerVita
10-12-2011, 11:17 PM
no. my boot order shows the same. i have the priority of the drives set properly. they are recognized the same.

I noticed there is a BIOS update for "HDD Compatability" - i find it strangely coincidental that it was released not long after the "reset fix" bios update. I wonder if for some reason the "fix" they made ended up causing issues with working on some sata drives. I'll try flashing it to that version later and see what the result is.

If that does not resolve it, then I will just go ahead and try the x64 repair utility and see if that resolves it.

I'm going to take a break from the madness and do some more case planning for now :)

Alright got it fixed. Thankfully the recovery CD figured it out. Looks like a bad boot partition. All fixed, starts as intended :) Hooray! BIOS flash fixed the restarts. The system is staaaabllllleeeee!

Frakkin' crap have i seriously not updated this since 2011? I cut some of the carbon fiber panels for my case and what not. The plexi didn't turn out how I wanted it and I will be cutting another plexi window.

I took 5 days off here this coming week, so if parts for the race car aren't here I will probably update some stuff for this.
