He's got a electronic alt-alzimuth based telescope with some fancy long exposure camera + out in the middle of alaska.

I've got a dobsonian base with a 140$ camera and a home made adapter in the middle of oklahoma city.

I'll post some cooler photos later, i was just surprised to capture that on a picture.

i'm not saying its not cool, if i understood that correctly. its hard to decipher that alien language that i have no knowledge of. i'm just saying, the other was just posted, and its a once in a hundred lifetimes photo. yours is cool, i just thought i would post that for common interests. i know nothing of that type of photography, so hats off to you.
post script. on other notes... when is the benching competition?
is there an update? :D
pss i may have to sig quote this, its hard to get rid of my other though. but i've never seen those cool words before
electronic alt-alzimuth based telescope - what's that?
dobsonian base - is that a brand?
sorry, haha. just curious.

The Alt azimuth (spelled it wrong the 1st time) base is a type of base with two axis of rotation. ones named blah... the other blah blah... well anyways you align one axis with polar north, then zero it out. The other axis corrects for the tilt of the earth. Using super bad ass math (insert computer here) you can look up coordinates for your area and sort of "cheat" at finding objects, they also let computers control those two axis for long exposure pictures so you don't get bleeding or well.. streaks of stars. (you would be surprised at how fast we're moving when your zoomed in 600x more then normal lol)
Mine is a basic base thats used with really large telescopes.

Heres a good picture between the two.

But that photographer probably i'd guess just mounted a uber nice camera to one of those bases.

You know if you think of it in computer parts terms.
For the price of a i7 2600k or a GTX560'ish (About 280~350$) You can have yourself a 8~10" diameter dobsonain telescope.
And you'll see nebulas galaxies, star clusters, gas clouds and insane s#^t you wouldn't think was possible.
Lenses and filters are where the money really is, sorta like adding liquid cooling or something your cool gaming computer.
(plus telescopes don't lose value in 6 months.... 500$ telescope is 500$ telescope)
