If you EVER get ahold of a McIntosh tube amp and try to use it for a mod, I'll seek you out and eat your face off! Just the McIntosh faceplate on that amp there is worth from $400 to $1000 on the antique audio market. Some of the other items there are also quite valuable as antiques in and of themselves. So I'm hoping you JUST use those for inspiration and don't actually start pulling them apart.

Watch out slipperyskip, he's not kidding about eating your face off! I've seen him do it  all the other guy did was look at him funny! ;)

Nice look inside your brain (not as messy as you'd think ;) )

Personally, I like the black and chrome thingy, 4th down.

Nice.

A couple would be nice.

Wouldn't want anybody to think I had some sort of fetish for lighters....;)

Careful, I dont think The Modfather was joking about eating your face.

Yeah, Hollywood is pretty much the same way. Last time I was down there I was sitting at this place on the boulevard eating, and within fifteen minutes I saw a midget Elvis impersonator, two pirates, a dude in leather fetish gear with devil wings, a guy dressed as Toad from the Super Mario Brother series, and Adam Sandler.

It was... unique.

You're right, i've never been to New York, sounds great! The best we have in the UK is the Naked Rambler, who refuses to wear clothes and walks around the countryside. Even in court he refuses to wear clothes-maybe he should go to NY?

Allthough you're probably thinking "Man, a naked hiker? That's tame compared to what we have..." let me just assure you that it's cold here. Very cold. And wet.

Who am I kidding? You guys get all the good whackos...it's just not fair.

How come you guys get all the wierd stuff.

I went to Vegas and never saw Anything strange...... :(

I would, however, like to HIGHLY recommend BIKINI'S.
A very, very nice club, especially the semi clad women dancing in the showers and waist high tanks of water ;)

I don't believe you. Are you sure it was vegas? Come on you should have seen at least one Elvis and maybe an alien wedding chappel. I think you weren't trying very hard :)

I was there for Comdex.

Wasn't bad 1 day in Comdex, 3 days having fun... all paid for by my boss.

As for adult entertainment, were only 1 hour flying and £30 from Amsterdam....:D

and for 50 euros...  ;)

Shame last time I went, I was with my wife :( (who was also pregnant :) )

Talk about deja vu.. Over the last week I have been looking into T-Class amplifer kits. While doing that I have come across countless Tube amplifier pics, specs, etc.. Something that just looks interesting sitting on a shelf since its not really accessed directly. I have been thinking about doing a Tube amplifer mini ITX project to use as a firewall router. Since I can't afford a tube amp, my idea wasn't to actually use a tube amp and gut it, but to try and fabricate a facsimile of one. Maybe use some actual tubes that would be lit from underneath or something like that. Where all this gets really tied together is I was drawing my inspiration from The Humidor PC!! Plus the Humidor cluster is awsome. I had posted somthing very similar in the idea section using nano itx boards when if first opened, and then viola I found your version! It is very cool!! I have been meaning to ask you what you are using it to do. I hear plenty of people talking about building clusters but when you ask them what they are going to do with it, they don't really know.. heh. Anyway, I am really anxious to see your next project.

EDIT: GALDARNIT!! I went back out to your site to drool over the Humidor Cluster and what do I see?!!? The picoCluster!! Very nice.. Well at least I know Im on the right track.. :)

The Humidor Cluster was destroyed last year coming back from CES. Nasty shipping accident...or...was it a case of suicide for having to leave Vegas?Hurts my heart.. I guess we can just hope its gone to a better place..
I built my clusters to learn about high-performance clustering. One thing I learned was that I don't need a cluster. Clusters are like dual core processors. They are pretty much useless unless someone writes software for it.I agree.. Thats kind of what I was thinking. Outside the business world, where it comes to high demand and redundancy, I really wasnt sure what anyone in the home realm was doing with them.
Tubes have been used in mods before but I don't think it has been done well.Thats what I was afraid of, but they are still pretty neat to look at. :)

Override, if yer looking for old tube electronics parts, get in touch with my father, he deals in that stuff, but don't think it comes cheap, that stuff is prized by collecters.

No prob Ovride... If there's something specific you're lookin' for, chances are he can track it down if he doesn't already have it. He's big into Dynaco tube electronics and McIntosh as well, but McIntosh is VERY expensive stuff.

I saw a clock on Bargain Hunt this morning (that's a British auction game show for those who don't know of it) that would have made a great modding project. It looked almost like a bookshelf stereo system. I don't know why it had three parts to it but it reminded me of this thread. :) Very art deco, which is something I dig. I just couldn't bring myself to destroy an antique though, I'd have to do it with modern parts.

I've seen all yer mods before, they're amazing, but I don't know where you ever got the idea I ever put down any of your work. I only ever said that it wasn't my cup of tea, in that it's not the kind of mods I do. I admire your work, it's just a shame you misunderstand so much. :/

Could someone give me a clue to what this guy is talking about?

I don't wanna drag up old disagreements but, on a site I write for you accused me of putting down your work, I never did that. I just said it wasn't the kind of modding that I do but I liked it a lot. For some reason you got very angry with me over that. I've always liked your work and I can't understand why you got mad at me and cursed at me.

okay, knock it off. both of you.

You want to argue about this stuff, do it in an email or a PM. Don't do it in these threads. Both of you contribute great stuff to these forums, and put up good work. That's what these forums are for. If you can't keep personal disagreements out of the threads, they will start getting locked. If they continue, you will get temp bans to give you some time to cool off.

I've received all of the reports that have been posted, but didn't want to have to step in, hoping you guys would resolve your differences and move on. Apparently this is not going to happen. If you two do not quit the bickering on these public forums then your posts will be deleted, the thread will be locked, and you will have a little vacation. I've gotten reports on your posts multiple times from a number of users, and do not want to see any more.

Are we clear?

That's cool. I thought about masking off areas and roughing up the surfaces using different methods...sandpaper, drill-bit brushs, whatever. I think that the contrasts could look good.

Also, areas could be polished using different methods in order to get contrasts.

http://slipperyskip.com/stuff/020.jpg

This would be a nice piece to use acid etching for, also. It takes some work and money to build the exposer unit and to get the developer agents for the process, but the details you can get out of it make for some very interesting effects - sort of the old-school laser etching.
