I was looking at getting a new 11 inch Alienware laptop to replace my current one, because I wanted an i5 or i7. The chips available are the i5 2467M and the i7 2617M. I checked Intel's site and they are both Dual core chips with Hyper threading! My current dual core Alienware is the low power U7300 and the new i series chips don't feel like an upgrade. When will I be able to get a real Quad core lappy?

Oh, apparently I have to get at least a 14 inch model to get a true quad core

My XPS 17" has an i7 in it

The i5 is an improvement over the old core 2 series because of the hyperthreading. I personally wouldn't get the i7 because of the heat troubles. my m11x with the i5 and the 335m would get extremely hot and require either extra cooling, or would lower in game performance... I would assume sandy bridge chips would help, but it would be balanced out by the more powerful graphics chip.

For the quad core mobile chips you need to look for the ones that end in 2***QM. A lot of them need the chipsets that come with the Quattro graphics by the looks of the business lines we deal with at work.

Oddly enough I don't game on my M11x, I just like the keyboard and the ability to game if I have to

considered the Asus G series?

pretty pimping..the hinges don't fall apart after 6 months of use, and the back lighting actually keeps on working.

I will never buy Asus. They're a crap company that will never see a dime from me, just like GSkill

I find that statement interesting simply because I've never had anything but excellent luck with asus laptops (their motherboards are another story), and GSkill is 1 of 2 companies I'll buy my ram from. Period.

kinda the same, Both majorbuds and his moms G72's perform flawlessly. and i've never heard okiemoe complaining about his.

But to each his own i suppose, it was just a suggestion since i've seen others impressed by the asus G series of laptops.

I mean if you want to throw down, then go with a Sager laptop cause it don't get much better then that.

Sagers are far too pricey. I guess regular Asus laptops are probably fine, I just hate their RoG lappys because I've seen sooo many dead ones just like RoG boards. Despite what people have come to believe, G.Skill is still generic RAM with nice looking heatspreaders. I'll always spend a little more and only buy name brands like Crucial, Corsair, & Mushkin

I've always considered them middle range ram, not the best quality out there (My G skill's accept overclocking like old cops accept retirement) but not bottom bargin bin s@#t you know.

They do awesome with set ups that feature a unlocked CPU multiplier, but if your having to overclock from the bus and it also affects the memory then man... invest in some nice stuff that can accept crazy memory speeds and timing cause the middle range probably won't work and bargin stuff would be hilarious at best.
