Yup someone rigged there way in through my rear sliding door the other night and made off with my computer plus the monitor and some random stuff.

But hey the 4,000$ bucks worth of real computing upstairs was left alone, and all my kiddos stuff is still here so im happy.

well at either rate if they go off and pawn it, its rather unusual and one off obviously so maybe the police will pick it up in a few weeks.

Wow. Sorry to hear that. Just another reason I detest most of the population as a whole.

a modded pc is a unique pc, one which surely will lead to the scumbag thief being arrested.

Thats what i'm thinking..

I mean how many Pink white and black pin striped Japanese computers are in this state. let alone around the world (taking a stab in the dark, but im assuming its just one)

But im not really all to upset, just glad they didnt take the computer that matters up stairs or mess with my kids stuff.

unfortunately, only if the thief tries to sell it off.

sorry to hear it was stolen. monetary value aside, you have a lot of time, energy and emotion invested in it.

i'm with nightrain, i detest most of the population too.

There are a few good people out there, definitely.

It's the crud of the Earth that ruins it for everybody else.

I just have the satisfaction of knowing that, if some idiot breaks into our house, the computers are on the second level, and they'll see 'em, and think they're too old to be of value.

that's why i've gotten into the idea of camouflaging my computers. such as the ibm5150 pc and now i'm starting on a CIWS ammo can computer.

make em "look" worthless and no one will want to steal them.

I would send photos to the police and all local pawn shops. Also keep an eye out for "custom" PC auctions on Ebay and Craigslist

Yes, all are very good suggestions.

Not just in your local town, but your surrounding area.

Also, keep us updated! We want to know if/when this guy gets caught and goes to jail.

You know it, i also printed off pictures of the computer along with pictures of the hardware and included serial numbers and stuff.

dropped a few pictures around the local neighborhood pawn shops as well, so they'll keep a look out for it.

Nothing on craigslist so far.

And i'm curious as to how pissed off they were when they got home fired it up and learned all the drives are bit locked and the system is password protected across the board on all accounts.

Let's hope they don't know about cracks, reinstalls, or Linux.....

Still, keep an eye out at local thrift stores.

Ya, i was going to drop off some flyers to the few in the area just in case.

Something tells me this wasn't exactly urkle or bill nye breaking into my house. =p

Wasn't really anything important on it other then my collection of movies and TV shows (was my media host and router)

lol it makes me wonder if it's worth installing some sort of LoJack transponder hardware. Or even LoJack software (https://www.google.com/search?q=lojack+software), although I'm unconvinced that it's very effective.

An excellent excuse for experimenting with all those GPS protocols in MCU projects! Building a short-range FM-band transmitter is trivial, but alas technically illegal since it steps on commercial signals. Hmm, then again the cops can punish me only after finding my computer, which is a good thing if it was stolen.

Well, no luck on Craigslist today. But I did find this. http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/sys/2708534906.html
For the right price I really want that case, but I really couldn't spend more than $200 total.
Good luck on your computer. I'll keep checking every now and then.

Wasn't registered here a month ago... but it's not too late to install it on all your other hardware, your cell phone, and anything else you can get it onto.

I'm thinking of offering to install it on customer systems when I do the occasional tech support.

The sheer weight of my big rig desktop i think deters people from stealing it.

57.3Lbs last time i dropped it on the scales, and i've added two hard drives since then so its probably closer to 60 now.

I've got a huge old nasty IBM case that I'm thinking of modding. The case weighs pretty close to 60 lbs already. I'm still trying to figure out how to open it though. There's some catch to it that's eluding me. I'm trying not to end up taking a grinder to it.

Might make a nice server one day. Right now all it's serving is a hernia.
