Alien Ant Pharm

Seen fish, seen cooking oil, lights, jiberish...how about an ant farm. This is version II, the first time the ants got out and unleashed terror on my house guests. About a week of digging, ill update once they make more progress.

yea, they eat it. I guess its some nutrient based gel designed by nasa. But i think it's bs. Baught 4 ant farms, (antqueriums they're called, do a search) and did some meth labbin in my kitchen to get all the gel into liquid state. dilluted it a little and combined them all. Sapposidly the company that makes the shi in europe is coming out with a powder soon so you can just mix it up. Thinkin about adding jello mix to my next batch. Then you order the ants online and let them have fun.

Thanks for the comments. Im not too much of a modder but i had a vision one day. Originally was just gonna use sand but then stumbled across this blue shi by accident. Everyday the ants make noticeable progress, updates once it gets insane. Its inly 1/2" btw.

I Love this mod, but one question: anyone considered how pissed the ants are about this whole thing?

by the way is the ant "pharm" mounted to the door and comes off when you open the door or is it loose in there. Also you did build the cage yourself...right?

As far as "refilling" it. err i guess once i decide to start over ill have to take it appart. I mounted another sheet of plexy about 1/2" behind the stock window so ya it comes off when i take the side off. Before i put 25 ants in. Now there is 50 but thinking about over populating it with about 150. As far as their feelings? I thought ants didn't have them haha. I imagine they're fine though, cooled with fans and such. Any other "rate my box" type sites out there? i wanna get this thing out and talked about.

ran into a problem, kinda funny though. Since i dilluted to gel, it's pretty liquidy towards the bottem. So about 5 ants were digging a cave when it collapsed, burying them alive. It also doesn't help when my roomate presses on the plexi which collapses the holes.

Yes, that does rather cause problems.... but I like this idea, I think I might so a similar thing with a different project, but I really like this idea. I actually catch ants with my hands, but bullants might be a bit extreme for a case XD

I've had some bad roommates in my past but none ever messed with my mods...I'd lose it for sure if that happened to me.

you can see one of the buried alive ants too. their tunnels are getting pretty intricate.

wow this is amazing. i have one question how did you make the space for them to live in just a box type thing. this gives me a idea for like bright water and vinegar in a window maybe somethin like that. do you think if you dipped a highlighter in water and left it there then took it out it would be UV reactive? well aight sweet mod. how old are you?

Ants are the only other creatures on the planet that farm. They don't eat the gel, they use it to cultivate a bacteria which they eat instead. If you thought wasps and bees were cool, ants kick the **** out them. What i'm saying is:

1) The ants will never run out of food
2) The ants will never need more gel

My girlfriend studies animals. Ants are one of the ones she respects the most.

I too respect the ants alot! I do however draw a line at the house. No (or minimal) bugs in the house. They can do whatever they want in my gardens or yard, but they step into the house and I eradicate them. (wasn't there a video game like that?

whats wrong with having bung in the house I grow spiders about this ******** big dont know what species they are but i hunt flys and feed them
(ouuu and they are a great mosquito repelent :D)

Well I actually let most of the spiders stay in the house, since they do eat the pests. The spiders here get so big they could carry your system off. We get wolf spiders with a body the size of a golf ball, AND they jump at you! Once they reach a certain size, they get tossed outside. Not that I hate ants or anything, they just don't belong in the house (unless they are in thier own enclosure).

sorry, i've been gone for a while. had to reformat the computer. Anyways, all the ants have died off now except for a couple troopers. There are numerous tunnels dug, throughout the entire window. My lighting went out, but it still looks cool and ill have even more pics up soon. Im gonna order more ants one of these days, they're african harvester ants i think. Im 19 btw???

As far as the gel goes...i think its propaganda. I image one could use any gel like formula for the ant habitat. There is quite a bit of debris on the surface that needs to be removed to clean it all up and make it look nice again. Been busy lately, but ill try and hurry up with the pics.

As i asked earlier, is there any other worthy sites to posting mods? contests maybe? i think im on to something pretty original here (hard to come by in the modding scene these days) and wanna exploit this ish.
