So its time for a new PC. This will be a dream build + some very basic modding. I don't have the tools or room (I'm now in Africa living in a small apartment), so I'll be buying a nice big case, new hardware, water cooling it and making some ascetic changes.

I'm still trying to find some good case paint. I ordered an air compressor so I will be able to use some spray paint.
I should be ordering the PC components in the next day or so and the WC parts in the very near future.
Cheers till then.

So i ordered a compressor to help with cleaning out old computers and possibly for painting.
I got a Campbell Hausfeld 3 Gallon Air Compressor Kit from Amazon.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/51ztRZiT5RL.jpg
Works like a charm. Start it up and let it sit for about 10 minutes and I've got nearly 90 PSI. It puts out a constant 15-20 PSI which isn't too bad for getting the lose dust off.
I also set up a little bench on my wife's old desk. Covered it with an antistatic mat to protect my parts when I'm building.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC04740.jpg
I'm also building some shelves for above the desk to keep my tools and parts out of my 1 year old's path of destruction. (And so my wife doesn't move my stuff because it was "in her way")
A Sidewinder X6 Gaming Keyboard is on its way too to match my Sidewinder Gaming Mouse. I got tired of looking at my Saitek II Keyboard.

I think my FrozenCPU order will be here Friday and Newegg will be here either Friday or Monday hopefully. Can't wait to get started!
Cheers till then.

So that's most of the parts. More to come in the next update. Now for some Fun!
Fan test
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05468.jpg
All good!! You can't understand how quiet this system is. Its quieter than my Antec 900 was and my wife's PC with custom fans. I guess it has to do with all the fans being HUGE.
Mobo fitting
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05469.jpg
I can easily remove the top mesh to paint it red by bending these little tabs.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05466.jpg
Its the same for the one on the front but I'm not sure I will paint that one too.
Its also the same way for the mesh on the bay covers. I will paint all of the mesh on them red as well. And I'll be painting the expansion bay covers, possibly the mesh that covers the rear 140mm fan. Its not removable but with some tape and a tarp I can do it.
Another thing I might paint is the mobo "thermal armor" I saw someone else used the same one and painted it white and it looked sick. But I'm not sure if that would be too much red in the case. I'm using the red as accents. The sleeving and WC tubing is all red and so are the LEDs.
Basically my posts will be a day behind because of how long it takes me to upload the pictures. I did alot of sleeving tonight but I didn't order enough...
I ordered more accessories today and all of the watercooling parts. I changed the rad to a Phobya one and the CPU block to the XSPC Rasa to cut down the cost. Also I can paint the Rasa :D
Well that's it for tonight.
Cheers till next time.

Here are the pics I promised about the sleeving.
What a mess!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05485.jpg
Much better :D
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05486.jpg
Here is what the cables look like againist the black case.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05487.jpg
Nice contrast.
As I said before I didn't order enough sleeving... so the rest of the fans and cables will have to wait till I get my next FrozenCPU order next week. No biggie.
Now here is where I need to cut. It will be a 1"x1" square which is for passing the fan and temp probe cables through to the Lamptron FC6. I'm trying to make this build as clean as possible.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05488.jpg

I wonder how the Thermal Armor would look red... Would that be too much red inside?
Microsoft Sidewinder X6 keyboard

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05636.jpg
Now its time for the hardware test.
All put together.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05637.jpg
WORKS! Installing Windows 7 64-bit.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05638.jpg
With 2nd GTX 260 installed.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05639.jpg
I am actually really upset with the Thermal Armor on this system. Its built for SLI but the 2nd card does not fit. I had to cut away a corrner of the Armor in order to get the GPU to fit. I'll post pics later once I clean it up.
Now for what I'm going to paint. I'm going to pull the grills off the top and front of the case and paint them a nice red.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05640.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05641.jpg
I'm also going to paint the PSU cover red... I think. I really can't decide if it will be too much red inside the case. I want it to be acents.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05643.jpg
Still waiting for sleeving and paint to come in. Once its here I can get moving on this. Today or tomorrow I will cut the case some to make the cable magement better for the Fan Controller. I also need to decide where to put the fill port for the res. I'm thinking under the top cover. It will be pretty easy to get to and it will be hidden.
Cheers till then.

Since I can't do any painting yet I figured I would try to figure out how to get the hidden drive working.
Took the face plate off.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05644.jpg
Here is one of the bay covers without the mesh on it.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05645.jpg
Now these covers kindof clip on. So I have to keep the frame in good condition so that it will stay in place.
Cut out the center.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05646.jpg
Shaved down the stubs a bit more. Need to file them now.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05647.jpg
What it looks like without the mesh on it.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05648.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05649.jpg
And finally what it will look like eventually.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05650.jpg
Now what I need to figure out is how to get the mesh to stick to the drive tray. Maybe a black foam type substance? That will totally hide what you see behind the mesh, which I like. Ideas?
Cheers till next time.

I was able to clean up the bay cover.

I'm looking into that double sided foam now. Need to find something I like.

So I made the first cuts into the case.
Here is the proposed spot. This cutout will be for passing the fan controller cables through so they are not visible.

Now... how to mount it? I heard it was pre drilled for a 140mm fan as well as a 120mm but its a lie. I'm going to have to figure out how to mount this beast.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05759.jpg

Finally got the rad mounted. There was a bit of drama though in the process. I measured 3 times and drilled once.... but I didn't measure with the mobo in. The Thermal Armor comes up quite a bit so it didn't fit at first. Once I moved the rad over about 1" I was able to get it all to fit.
First holes I drilled. I also drilled out the 120mm fan holes because they were recessed and the rad wouldn't go flush with the top of the case.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05769.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05771.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05779.jpg
So since that went baddly here is what it looked like after I moved it.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05781.jpg
Few extra holes but thats what the plasic cover is for.
Really tight fit. There is probably a few mm between the mobo and the fan to the rad.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05782.jpg
The rad really makes this case feel tiny... even though its a monster.
Since that went well, I decided to mount the pump. Was alot easier than the rad.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05780.jpg
Maybe I'll get the rest of the WC parts and some more sleeving.
Cheers till then.

Lets get started!
Opening up the CPU block. It has fitting for 3 different CPU Sockets.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05921.jpg
I plan on painting some of it if my paint ever gets here.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05923.jpg
I was originally going to put the temp probe in a prefabricated 5.25" bay cover.....
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05933.jpg
but that would be too easy... lets put it in one of the stock bay covers.

Rough cut
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05947.jpg
Cut the bracket so the display fits and filed the grill down to a nice edge

Looks good :D

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05950.jpg
I'll put foam in it so you cant see behind the grill... I think.
Now to make sure my WC stuff works.
All installed

No leaks!!!!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05931.jpg
And I emptied it out until I was ready to install it for good.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05932.jpg
Tonight I have been installing the parts into the case. The case is done but there are just outside ascetics things to do. Installed the lights and most of the fans. Still need the sleeving to get here... hopefully tomorrow then I will be totally done inside. Only a week or 2 left and this mod is done! Then we start the next...
Cheers till then.

I finally got around to drilling new mounting holes into the casing of the BluRay drive. Wasn't too challenging. I should have the foam the next few days and then it will be all done!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC05951.jpg
Here is a quick shot of how all the cables look so far going into the Fan Controller.... Not sure I'm a fan because I had to do some moving and I don't like them where they are now.... might have to do some more cutting.

Mounted the plastic drawers up there to get the maximum use out of the wall. I think I'll buy another one because it is such an awesome storage option.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06098.jpg

Finally got my paint and a few more things in. Here we go.
Africa is killing my updates! We had one of our worst storms yet yesterday so painting was kinda tough. But I was able to get a ton done.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06227.jpg
I cut another hole for the wires to get to the fan controller since I had to move it.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06229.jpg
Here you can see the old one and the new one.

And now for the painted parts!!
Grills
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06238.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06297.jpg
Lets get this beast put together! Still a few minor things to do but I just couldn't help myself last night.
CPU and water block installed.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06299.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06307.jpg
So I had to do a crazy loop in the system to get the Rad connected to to the Res... it doesn't look terrible right?
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06309.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06312.jpg
And finally the last hose from the Res to the pump.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06313.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06316.jpg

I figured out how to get the mesh cover to stick to the optical drive.... hot glue the sucker :D. It was actually more than that. I had to file more of the bay cover "housing" away so it was not stopping the mesh cover from going a little bit further back. But the end all product is awesome looking. I'll try to take some pics in the next few days.
I'm not going to take pics of the last cables I sleeved... everyone has seen that before so its no real big deal.
I'm working on getting SLI setup but right now I am just using the 2 cards individually to fold. They only use the GPU2 client but still putting out almost 7k PPD each and my i7 is putting out 13k PPD but I've seen it as high as 26k PPD. Its OC'd to 4.4 GHz right now. Will try for 5Ghz soon.
The water is cooling well enough I would say. Not sure what good temps are but it is around 25-27C when idle and 33-35C when folding/gaming. Is that normal? I try to keep the office AC on 23 C but the wife thinks thats too cold. I'm sure the system would run better in a colder room. The fans are pushing out 31C air.
Once I take the final pics this mod is done! On to Maximus Serverus (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26356) :D
Cheers till later.

Here is another small update with a photo shoot.
The weird loop I had to make at the top was getting a kink. So I ordered some black anti kink coils to cover all of the tubing.
This is 5 of the 10 I bought.... I could have sworn that FrozenCPU said they were 1' lengths... well they aren't. I'd guess them to be at least 3'. So Now I have 30' unstreached.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06776.jpg
I also got a 90 degree and 45 degree angle fitting for the bottom GPU. I didn't like they way it was bent and in the way of the PSU cover so I went with the 45 degree first and it worked out well.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06775.jpg
And here are some shots of the inside. I mess with some settings and such so hopefully they look good.

Finished painting the HDD sliders. Also spent an hour on cable management where you can and can't see. Before the back of the case was really hard to put on. Now, not so much :D. Currently I am trying to cut one of the mesh fronts to accommodate my media card reader but I kinda messed up on the first one :( One bad cut and your effed when it comes to mesh. Well I guess any material but w/e. You get my meaning. I wonder if I can get more from CM if I try again on the 2nd one...

I had the 2.5" media card reader just sitting in one of the SATA hot swap front bay drawers and I had enough of that. Its not a mod unless your cutting it up. So here goes.
Since the HAF-X is lame and doesn't have a 2.5" bay in the front.. I have to make my own. Here I cut the bay drawer so it could accommodate the board inside the media card reader.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06797.jpg
Here is the board.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06801.jpg
Whew, fit on the first try.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06802.jpg
Next I cut away the plastic lattice work on the bay cover.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06803.jpg
Then I had to make it about 3/16" wider on each side but I forgot a pic of that... oh well you get what I mean.
Time to start cutting up the bay cover mesh. Here I taped one of the extra media card reader covers to the mesh so I had a template.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06804.jpg
An hour later I had this.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06807.jpg
Since the bay drawer doesn't have the nifty tabs for the board to screw into I had to get bigger screws and nuts to make it work.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06818.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06819.jpg
Here is what it looks like on the inside. You can see I have 1 nut on the top of the metal.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06820.jpg
And one underneath to make it tight.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06821.jpg
Looks good right?
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06822.jpg

I just got in some nice red LED case feet so I have been sleeving them today. Once I get the I/O plate painted I'll take pics and install them. Will have to cut into the bottom of the case but no worries. So I'm like 95% sure that the case feet are the last thing to do but you never know.
Thanks for reading.

i'm diggin' it.
Thanks man!
I bought some basic LED case feet.

The wheels that come with the HAF-X are absolute crap.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06830.jpg
Here is the cabling all sleeved up. Takes awhile because you have to take alot of it apart to get the sleeving to fit just right.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06832.jpg
Lights out it they look great.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06833.jpg
About 5 minutes after I took those dark pics I noticed a smell.... I was like "WTF is on fire??". Then the case fee went dark. Crap! I turned off the computer and pulled out the cabling for the case feet.
This is what I got...
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06847.jpg
The resistor fried. I have no way to tell what the rating is on it unless someone here knows some voodoo magic? I can't see the bands on the side but I might take some cleaner to it and see if I can get the char off of it. If not can I tell with a multimeter even if its blown? Otherwise I guess I need to buy another set.
Cheers.

So I painted the backplates and got them installed. They greatly improve the look of the case.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC06958.jpg
Also the cards have a much more "snug" fit. Which is good because I thought the weight of the water blocks would hurt the cards eventually.
Later this week I will play with the case feet LEDs again and see if I can't get them working better. I might have to order some new resistors but I'll probably wait and just pick them up in the states when I'm on vacation.
Cheers till next time.

Very tidy nice project Fuganater :) +rep .
I can't wait to see some finished shots of this once you get everything in order. I love the 'thermal armor' on that board...It just makes the board 100x cleaner. And I've always loved the black, red, and white color trio. It simply looks good on everything; especially this mod.
Thanks guys! I was going for as clean a look as I could.
Next I will put a mesh backing on the GPUs. But I need longer screws and rubber screws so the card doesn't conduct.

I did some sleeving last weekend but my wife had the camera so I'll get those pictures in the next update.
Got some awesome new fans. Aerocool Sharks! They push an amazing amount of air at 5, 7 and 12v. Got 6x 120mm and 4x 140mm
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC00874.jpg
New 360 rad for the roof. XSPC EX360. With the Aerocool fans people say it cools as well or better than the RX360 which is a much thicker rad.

Much better
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC00876.jpg
3 push fans on. I'll put the pull fans on once I get the RAD mounted into the case. They will go where the 2x 200mm fans are.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC00877.jpg
More to come soon. I got the rest of the parts for the res and some new pumps. I really wanted a matching pair of Swiftech MCP350's and I got them  . Only $40 each BNIB :P
My wife gave me the thumbs up to work on this after my daughters birthday party tomorrow.
Cheers till then.

I got to have a bit of a "modding marathon" this weekend. Got loads done so here we go! (Some of the pics came out crappy and I'm sorry for this. IDK what my camera was doing)
EX360 rad installed and all the fans installed.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC01023.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC01024.jpg
You can still see the 140mm rad on the back. I really really hate externally mounted rads but it was the only way to get it to fit. It will go away now. You will also see a MCP220 rad in the middle of the case. The plan was to mod the HDD cage to put my Phobya 280 rad in but its way too big for the bottom of the case. Luckily I have some rads sitting around that I bought.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC01026.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC01027.jpg
Since the EX360 is thinner and sits further towards the font of the case. I can now fit the MCP120 rad inside the case. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC01029.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC01030.jpg
240 rad with fans

Once I hid all of the cables it was time to start the tubing! The CPU gets the 240 and 120 rad. The GPUs get the 360 rad.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Project%20Rage/DSC01037.jpg

Now sure if you all know how to get sleeving perfect. I mark where the sleeving needs to stop with a white paint marker. That way all my sleeving stops right at the connector.

Random shot of my res. This think was a nightmare to bleed. Took probably 4 hours of running for all the air to get out.

If you remember I had to mod the water temp sensor to be red. Well I did another so I have the temps of both loops handy.

You can also see I unstealthed the Blu-Ray drive. It was annoying and was sticking out the back of the 5.25 bay so it made running the tubing harder.

And finally here is how it looks at the end of the weekend.

I installed 2 the the top and one in the bottom of the case. They light it up quite nicely.

While I was taking these pictures I noticed the case was quiet and felt hot...

OH CRAP!!!!
Somehow I hit the molex connector to my fans on the 360 rad and they didn't come back on. Once that was fixed it went down.

And finally I installed 3x 5mm red LEDs into the res.

Almost done. I think I will take a break and save a bit of money for the plexi bender. Its like $150. Expect more as soon as my new rads come in. I bought a new XSPC EX120 and 240. I'm also trying to score some Pastel Light Red Mayhems fluid and some Red Dye. We'll see how things go.
Cheers till next time.
