Well, the other day, i was browsing PC case gear, and being the inquisitive type i was looking through the fan section. Anyways, i decided to pick up two fans. A 220CFM delta http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod2431.htm and a 14DBA (72CFM) silenX http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod1682.htm They arrive today :)

And i must say that the Delta is a BEAST!! THis thing is HUGE!!. I immediately hooked it up to my PSU and felt the resulting turbulence. These things are rated at 200CFM and i can say, they live up to it, this thing can levititae!!. However, this comes as a mighty penalty. It roars like a Vaccum cleaner. Seriously it has a high pitched Squeal that is quite ruptuous to the ear drums.

anyway, i soon had it unplugged, and put the SilenX on board. And it's quiet, like really quiet. i put my ear right up to it, and only then is it really audible.

I don't know if it is 14DBA, but it might be close, it is really quiet

Just for compairisons sake i plugged in my silent coolermaster LED fan, the whirr it produces is similar, just lower pitched, and it doesn't seem to pump quite the same amount of air. Seeing that it is cheaper, it would probably be my choice of silent fan, as it comes with LED's to boot.

just as a side note, the delta is really pushing a Crazy amount of air, if you want hard core cooling and don't care about noise, its the fan to get

Give it a few hours and that SilenX will start getting noisy.

my god that delta looks like it means business.
it says it creates 65Db of noise. I'd love to know how much flow you'd lose if you hooked it up to a fan controller and slowed it down. and how much the noise would drop.

maybe you could attach the delta to the end of a long flexable hose and stuck it in another room or hang it out a window :). Wait don't put it outside, it might suck in a bird or small child.

Ah, he'd be doing the world a favour. Can't have little kiddies flying around, it's not proper.
