i really shouldnt be answering this... but im drawn to thsi sort of thing.

so you cant make change for $1.00, $.50, $.25, $.10, or $.05. im going to assume that this means you have no looneys or dollar bills, no quarters, no dimes and no nickels.

what coins are left? we have the penny, and i believe thats it, unless you want to get obscure and say you have collectors pennies that are worth about $.20 each.

to tell you the truth, i cant see an answer at all. from my past experiences, i found that grade school teachers like to throw the odd trick question in. im suspecting that right now, but ill keep this in mind.

one other thing. it cant be pennies, because if you had 6 pennies, you could make change for a nickel.

just another level of complex, thats all.

ah, so i WAS wrong. all that hypothesizing and chatter for nothing then. i thought we COULDNT use quarters, dimes, fifty cent pieces, nickels, or anything he said you cant make change for. im confused now.

i love how you guys disregarded me though... reminds me of that one idiot in the back of the class that talks so much everyone just tunes him out.

haha... ha... oh, the pain of being an intellectual outcast.

As for maths...

1. Teaching Math to the Class of 1964:

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100.
His cost of production is 4/5 of the price.

What is his profit?

2. Teaching Math to the Class of 1974:

His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80.
What is his profit?

3. Teaching Math to the Class of 1984:

4. Teaching Math to the Class of 1994

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100.
His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20.

Your assignment: Underline the number 20.

5. Teaching Math to the Class of 2004

A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of $20. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class participation after answering the question:

How did the birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes?
(There are no wrong answers.)

THEY SCREAMED AN EMOTIONAL POEM INSIDE AS THEY DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH TO YELL AT THE LOGGER, SO THEY BECAME EMO BIRDS AND SQUIRRELS AND STARTED CUTTING.

Yes but he real question is... when those trees fell, did they make a noise?

I always hated word problems
-----------------------------
If strawberries are $1.50 a pint
Then how many flapjacks does it take to shingle a dog house?
-----------------------------
If it takes a red headed woodpecker 9 months and 13 days to whittle out $6.57 worth of cedar shingles.
Then how long will it take a cross-eyed grashopper, with one peg leg, to kick the seeds out of a (kosher) dill pickle?
-----------------------------
remember you only get half credit if you don't show your work.

If you're rowing your cement canoe down the river and the wheels fall off how many pancakes does it take to shingle your car?
