I notice most commercial PC fan controllers put a somewhat largish cap and inductor at each output. At least the better controllers using PWM methods do, not the simpler variable-resistance or voltage-regulation types.
Is this LC component pair used to balance impedance across fan channels? Or to smooth out capacitive loading on the PSU? What purpose does it serve? I suppose I'm missing something totally obvious, and I don't happen to have any commercial fan controllers I can crack open to examine in detail.
