Hi All am new to the modding scene and decided to build my PC around the Holden Car theme which is a popular make of car here in oz.
PC is basically a stock P4 1.7 gig with a 128meg FX5200. and 60 gig HDD.
The case is an Antec 6105, and have hand cut the Holden Lion Logo using the trusty dremel, a 120mm coolermaster fan grill, a 80mm Thermaltake LED fan which writes in red as it spins(the word thermaltake and the ambient temp in degrees celsius shows on the fan). up front is a coolermaster VU Gauge set monitoring voltage,CPU Temp and measures sound pressure from within the case. under that is a superflower fan controlller, which looks after all the fans as well as monitoring the HDD temp.below are some photos of the completed case, would love ta know what you all think....cheers....Andy :)

That looks pretty good, but...if you don't want to hear my opinion skip this part.

The side panel looks a little...plain? It needs something to add character, even something simple like a different painjob over the black. Even if it's only lines or something.

Hi!

There's a few Aussies on these boards, including Defyant, Shikmaru and I, plus many more :)

Nice job on the cutting of the Holden logo, but I agree with Dave W... it is a bit plain. I have no idea how to spruce it up either :?

PS... go Ford :p

looks good. is the inside yellow? here is something super simple you could do to fix up the side to make it a lil more jazzy. try backlighting that logo so it stands out a little better. like a cold cathode tube on below it or on the left. Seems a little dark on that left side. dosent let us see your good detail work. try matching the color of the tube with the color that the inside of your case is painted. the front looks sweet but the bottom part seems like its missing something. maybe a big fan at the bottom or something. keep up the good work dude. thanks for shareing that with us

if you have something more impressive to show us then by all means do so. otherwise constructive criticism is welcome but flat trash talk is not. if you have nothing constructive to contribute to this forum or this thread then just move on.

I like the mod, myself. I think you could add by maybe modding the front of the case more to show that it is Holden themed. The side looks nice. The Holden window seems like more of a peep-hole than a window, but is done really well. Were you more trying to get backlight around the lion?

Anyways, take my suggestions with a grain of salt. It is a really good mod and the people here all love to help with ideas and suggestions to make us all better modders. Welcome to the forums!

Like your mod man, really nice. If you don't mind me asking as to where you got those gauges from? I have those same type of gauges on my DVD and have been tempted to rip em out to incorporate them into my home Media center/file server.

Knock it off. All of you.

Peasantry was out of line with his comments, but the vitriol flung back at him was just as out of line. Telling him to kill himself? Seriously, guys, you're better than that.

Any comments not directly about this case project will be deleted immediately.

That said, in my opinion the project is a good start, but doesn't show any solid goal or overall cohesiveness. The side windows seem liek they were placed arbitrarily, and do not really tie into each other very well. The front looks good, but lacks definition. Bringing out the bezel by highlighting the "swoops" on either side in red or blue, along with filling in the curves in the bottom, would go a long way in adding a distinctive style that would draw attention to the curves and shape of the front panel.

You are obviously very into cars, given the pictures in the background there. Perhaps take a cue from car designers and highlight some crucial details with chrome strips - it would add to the overall appeal and artistry of your design, really making it stand out. As it is now, it shows a lot of promise, but it doesn't feel particularly well planned, you know?

I'm not trying to discourage you, by any means. Just putting a few suggestions out there. Nice work, and welcome to the forums.

I bought them from IT warehouse here in oz, they were ex demo models out of a case they had for sale so reduced them from $99 to $25 so i was quick to grab them. if you go to coolermaster website they have them and all the specs on there also...hope this helps.....Andy :)

Welcome to the boards
Sorry to see so much trouble stirred up in 1 thread.
Here are my observations, please take them or leave them as you see fit, I'm not trying to offend anyone.

My first impression was that you had bought a bunch of stock modding components and just assembled a case. Which is all fine and dandy but after seeing these same parts for sale at most retail websites I kinda look for more personal touches in a mod.

Then I saw the holden symbol on the side. Very nice. Its about the only piece of personalization on the case. Therefore it should be a center piece of your mod's theme. Here are a few suggestions.
- I think a copy of the Holden logo would look great as a fan grill of an intake fan on the front of your case below the power button.
- Most modders are used to seeing a big window showing off the interior of the computer. By not having one you lose a lot of modding real estate. You can't show off your sleeving or lighting very much. Remember it does not have to be rectangular. But this really is a personal preferance and should not be seen as 'wrong'.
- You seem to have a blue and red color scheme over a black background. Change your green power lights on the front to blue so they don't detract from your scheme.
- the handle on the top of the case seems a bit out of place. I'd either paint it black so it doesn't stand out or chrome plate it so it matches the fan grills you have. Better yet, replace it with a real Holden door handle from a junk yard (not sure what they look like so it might not be practical)
- Have you done anything to the other side of the case? Plenty of room for more Holden stuff. Like a nice silouette or something.

no offence taken cevinol, just plain old constructive critisism this is why i joined to get peoples ideas and opinions, and to expand on those if i like any of the ideas. we dont have a great deal of laser cutting services here in south australia as i really like the idea of the holden lion fan grill, will have to research that in a bit more detail i think...  I appreciate your input immensly it was only the out and out negative slagging i got from a newbie also that i got ticked off about...like i said if i didnt have a strong backbone and was a newbie who was easily offended i would have given up the ghost there and then and gone back to a stock case.have been browsing the galleries alot and see that there are so many more options open to me than just a rectangular case with a few pretty lights on it...the bug has definitely bit, and i hold you all responsible for it.:D :D :D ...And i thank you all for it......again criticism is welcome as it gives me something to build on...cheers all.....Andy:D

I like it. Simple, but well executed. There are so many good things about the forums here. Keep browsing around, and you will find inspiration in many of the projects here. And hey, who's to say you can't mod your mod?

We've had a small taster of Holden in the UK in the Minaro. I know it's all General Motors but still it's a killer motor. Cool start for a mod though. Good work!!;)

well thanx for all your advice guys be it positive or 0therwise, I can handle constructive criticism and thats what I like to see.....I have moved away from the idea of bogging up my case and dremelling away till i got something i liked, when a friend offered me 2 metres of holden contact paper which has all the conceptual cars that holden have designed on it...I decided one night what the hell i'm going to contact my case......I think it came up ok and sure beats just the black standard case with the lights in....took a lot of peeling back and smoothing to get rid of air bubbles in it, but adds a whole new dimension to the case I think... sorry about the light in the 2nd pic makes it look a little orange....

Personally, I don't like the three side items. I think it looks cluttered.

Ouch!

I was wondering where you got the handle on the top of your case it looks ideal for a mod I am doing at the moment?

Keep up the good work

Hey that thing is pretty cool looking! I like all the pretty lights ^_^. I also like the fact that you didnt go with a computer case handle and got a chest handle instead. Anything out of the ordinary is an A+ in my book! Way to be innovative! good job.

Do you have any recent pics of the case? The posts above all say that the image has been moved or deleted.... or is it just me? :?

Btw, I like the "solidness" of the case... :)
