Hey,

I am probably going to buy the PC 70. And I want to mod it, now what I need are ideas. For the top panel:

Should I use the dremel and drill 3 holes for 3 80 mm fans,
Or
Should I cut out a bigger hole (nearly the whole top panel) and put a plexi window and have the 3 fans on that.

For the side panel I think I am going to have a large plexi window and for the front, well, I don't know and I would like your feedback, specially from people which have worked with this case before.

Thanks.

I think you'll get more constructive input from the board if you give us a place to start from. Effectively you've said "I have a blank canvas, tell me what to paint" That's kinda backwards from how we do things here.

You see, since its going to be YOUR machine most of us here believe your mod should reflect something about YOU. Come up with a theme, a style or feature(s) that you'd like in your machine that it won't have from the factory.
Aero's guide to modding part 1 (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2403) is a good first step.
Second hit google and see what other people have done.
but even befroe these two things I would write down or draw out the stuff I think would look cool on my machine. Regardless of how outrageous it seems jot it down.

You should see my computer. I have over a hundred bookmarks to modding sites, suppliers, tutorials. I've downloaded and burned some to CD that were really cool in case they disappeared. I have several text files in different folders with list of ideas, themes, color schemes, mateiral lists.

Right now I'm trying to get familiar with SketchUp so I can get more accurate drawings.

Other things you haven't mentioned is your experience with assembling computers. Then your experience with modding. I'll assume very little of either. Also what is your budget constraint and what kind of tools do you have at your disposal.

Finally why a Lian Li pc70 (http://www.xoxide.com/lianlipc70.html)?
That's roughly $180.00US and it doesn't look like it offers anything that special, that cheaper cases don't already have. If this is your first case mod wouldn't you rather practice on something cheaper first? seeing as how you don't have a plan yet on what you want to do with the case.

Thank you for your constructiveness. I have modded 2 or 3 comps, but just blowholes and such. And I have assembled all the computers I have (4) except my laptop >_>. I have never done a mod from scratch though. I want to buy the Lian Li PC 70, because:
1. It's made out of aluminium everything, the bezel too (I know there are many others, but here in Switzerland, it's hard to find something else than that. There is no big selection of cases). I could order from the net, but postage would probably be as expensive as the case.

2. Also the size of it, it's pretty big, and a big case is what I need, specially for cooling and ventilation purposes (My GPU stands at 47 C idle in my premodded case, I know it's ok, but I would like to have it at at least 38 C).

3. Quality.

4. Also I really like its design.

You are right about the painter with the blank canvas asking for ideas, maybe I should elaborate more. But first let me come to your suggestion about google, I have done this many times before, all I see are premodded cases filled with blue LEDs, I do see the occasional cool fully modded case, but nothing really unique. I don't know if with my skills I can produce something unique, but I shall try. In September I am going to a LAN party (AirPlane LAN (http://www.air-plane.ch/portal/)) which will be held in the main international airport here in Switzerland, it will be in one entire terminal and will be host to 1100 LANners. So maybe something themed around airplanes.I do not plan on winning or even participating in the mod contest (although I have seen ugly cases win the modding contest in the previous LAN and ones before). What I wanted are some pointers from people who have worked with this case before, but obviously I was asking too much. I don't know if I want a side window or not. What I was thinking was something totally black with White LED fans, I think that would be pretty neat, but guess what: you can't find white LED fans here in Switzerland, only those darned blue ones and multicolored craps along with the red ones which are ok. I do not want water cooling but my budget is pretty wide. For tools I have a dremel, soldiering iron, a drill but I can always get hold of more.

EDIT: I would love to have a look at your sites, I know a few but more can only help, and also if I can have a look at any you would show me can also only help, thanks a lot.

I found this site a few months back.
It both inspires me and depresss me. I see all the cool mods but then think "crap its already been done". lol
