About a month ago i went to open steam and i got the error message "Failed to load Modules". So after a bit of research i tried the usual fixes a Google search would find, such as " Delete ClientRegistryBlob" etc.

This then lead to the same error. I then uninstalled steam completely ( including from registry ) and now i get the error " There was a problem with your steam installation, Please re-install"

This again has failed to work, I even switched between my two connected hardrives, erased both and several times, reformatting on to each drive and it still will not work :/

Sorry for wall of text but can anyone help?

I don't know if this will work for you, but it seems to have worked for a few people with similar problems.

Start services.msc in run.

Find application experience, enable it, start the service, and set it to automatic start.

Uninstall steam from control panel and use ccleaner to clean out its registry entries.

Start installing steam again.

Edit: Also, from what I've learned over the years: When in doubt, check for bad memory. It could be a bad bit in memory that is being accessed by Steam's install causing the failure. Never hurts to run memory tests to see if they are in top shape.

I just did what you suggested above about ccleaner ( yet to try install steam again just yet)

What program would you recommend to check memory with?

thanks :)

EDIT: Just got MemTest so i will run that now

Could not connect to Steam network.
This could be due to problem with your Internet connection, or with the Steam network. Please visit http://www.steampowered.com for more info.

Talk about confusing, I can't get my network to open the ports I need because I'm super confused on how what the trigger point is.. I have a few games on there, but it wont let me connect and its very frustrating...

How many times did you run MemTest? Best to let that thing run overnight.

Did you try the entire procedure listed before that, or just pieces of it? From my googling, there were a few people with the same / similar problem that process worked for. I would try the entire process in that order. You can also check if UAC is causing problems, try the install with it off if it isn't already.

The memtest was an edit to my post, as I've gone through long winded fixes of software only to have it have been a memory hardware problem.

If that fails i'll try UAC :), thanks for the help so far :).

@Cale_Hagan Thanks for the info, i'll give that a go aswel :)

This is gonna sound a little funky, but did you try uninstalling, running CCleaner, scan for registry errors, then when you re install try putting steam in a different location, even if it's just root C:/ instead of C:/Programs(x86)

I'll give that a go now to see, I have even reformatted windows and changed location between my two hard drives but it can't hurt to try thanks :)

I had a similar issue. All I did was grab a Steam install and install over it. Seemed to work fine.

Finally got it sorted, after many many attempts lol.

I took both HDD's out and connected one to my brother in laws computer by usb, formated and installed XP then upgraded to 7 again and voila :D

EDIT: Stopped working yet again, getting very frustrating now.. It worked fine, i installed all my usual programs, restarted PC everything was great.

I come back to it an hour later and turn on the PC and it gives me the same error :(

Now I'm almost thinking remnant malware.

Last-ditch effort:
Get GPartEd (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php), delete all partitions, shutdown, keep off for at least a minute, re-create the partitions, reinstall.

Thanks for the reply, although I tried that also :)

I carried out a complete format of my hard drive, installed windows, then installed steam and it worked until i restarted my pc.

The problems have only started since the last title update, so does anyone know when the next one is due possibly?

EDIT: Finally fixed it now, I have to disable my internet connection and start it up for it to work n then just enable and sign it :)

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and help :)
