heya folks

i'm new here, and new to modding as well. in the process of finishing up my first custom computer build, got all the functionality stuff done except for the video cards, now working on some ideas for the case art.

i love the mountain mod case, lots of realestate to do stuff with. originally i was going to go with a borg theme, but there's a cubical case that has been done up in a borg cube that is absolutely stunning, so i am thinking i want to do something else.

i guess my biggest question is where can i get a lot of good miniature pieces and parts - machinery-looking things and such. i'm thinking a real industrial look for the cube would be cool.

anyway, wanted to share with you guys, been lurking for a while, decided it was about time i shared a bit heh.

EDIT : my original link didn't work properly, i will get some pics etc. up poste haste.

Hmm. We can't see the pics without signing up for the forums. You'd be better posting pics here. Most folks won't bother clicking a link never mind signing up for stuff! Welcome to the boards. :)

As for your question about small parts and such. Go to model hobby stores. They will have the basic things you're looking for.

i've heard some folks say stuff about architecture models. any idea where those can be found?

think of any smaller hobby store. larger ones tend just to stock items that sell (go figure). possibly look under yellow pages for model railroad. if it gives you a hobby shop. check those out. they sell that kind of thing together.

where can i get a lot of good miniature pieces and parts - machinery-looking things and such. i'm thinking a real industrial lookWell one question you need to ask is what scale are you looking at.

for instance that Borg cube (http://biggestpos.com/pics/gallery/borgcase) is one scale, the Doom3:Project Mars City (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1) is on another and the Oxidized (http://www.tstonedesign.com/) mod is on a 3rd. Knowing what scale you want to work on helps you target where you should look for parts (ie. a hardware store, a hobby store, junk yard)

I agree with Maz, pretty much any hobby shop will have those types of things. You're are probably going to have to take parts from multiple models for the real industrial effect. A good example is the Doom 3 project mars mod.

Ok here's what i would do. (feel free to reject at any time :) )

I would cruze to the local thrift store, go to the biggest store with the most crap (yes crap). For me its value village. Look for half built model cars, planes, trains, ect, ect... Look in the childrens toy department. There is all kinds of weird old toys and stuff waiting to be hacked up. House wares usually contain off the wall items.

You can glue wires on the side of your case to simulate small pipes. Cut pieces of square plastic for the exterior shell. Small resistors could be power couplings. Old batteries (AA or AAA) could make cool power inverters or somthing.

Another thing i was thinking of is using one of thoes electro plates for a case window. by electro plate i mean the thing on top of "seven of nine's" docking station.

The thing to remember about the borg is that they assimillate technology so thats what you'll have to do.
