Hi all,

I have this idea of embedding a pico projector within an R2D2 body so I can recreate the Princess Leia Hologram moment. I wanted to get some suggestions on what sort of materials I should use to build the body of the R2D2 droid.

I see some people mold using styrafoam and I was thinking of going that direction but would it be better to use something sturdier just to house the projector?

The projector is an AAXA P3:
Dimensions: 4.6" * 2.6" * 1.4"
Weight: 0.8 lbs

Anything tips to keep in mind before I start construction?

the simplest way would be to buy a R2D2 toy/model and then gut it and mount the projector inside it just depends how much work you want to do. Otherwise using a cylinder of sorts and styrene for details would also work.

Wow I really should have thought of that. I think I can just hollow one out, and use some mix of cardboard/styrafoam to mold out an interior shelf. Thank you sir.

Here is a vid of me experimenting with the projector for you troubles! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uf0_C311ms0
