Ouch! That sucks bro, happened to me once too and I know that gut feeling you get when you realize all that stuff you worked so hard to put together is just gone. Don't be too hard on the cops though, realistically there is virtually no chance they will ever find it even if they were searching hard for it so for stolen property no one ever makes much of a fuss. I'd prefer they focus on violent crime anyway. Chalk it up to a donation to the "needy" and start over. Sorry to hear about that

Troll the local pawn shops and craigs list.

Many many moons ago a buddy had his car cleaned out. The pawn shop right down the street had all of his stuff except a few of the CD's. He told them it was stolen property, called the cops and they came down and took the goods as evidence and were able to track down the thief's from the information they gave to the pawn shop. Doesn't happen often, but it never hurts to check. Do you have insurance that will cover it? I know my home owners insurance covers thefts if the vehicle is parked on or in front of my property.

And likely they were watching you in the car until you left.

I had a stereo stolen once. Rebuilt the dashboard around the stereo myself. Added a trip alarm to the stereo (micro switch behind it, in the mount, wired to an exterior siren module). Added a blinking red LED next to the stereo which came on when the ignition is off. Also, opened up the back of the case of the stereo and wired a piece of 1/16" steel cable through the back panel, out into the dash, then around the steering wheel column. You couldn't move the stereo more than 1/8" without tripping the siren, and you couldn't get it farther than about 3/4" without tearing your fingers off.

Nobody seems to have attempted that nonsense again.

Purely out of curiousity, did you lock the car when you went in?

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you.

I don't understand the people that can steal things from others. I've been poor enough that we didn't even know if we were going to eat that night, and yet I never once thought about stealing things from other people.

But the people my younger cousin hangs out with are entirely different. I can't stay at my Aunt and Uncle's home and leave my things out on the table like I used to. If his friends come over, which could be any time of the night, anything within view will be gone by morning. My Aunt and Uncle are too trusting too, as they keep letting him let these people come over there even though every time one of them is there something goes missing. I fell asleep with my wallet on the table not 18" away from my head and by morning half my cash was gone.

When I'm outside washing my car, without fail one of them will come over and say, "Sweet ride, yo. You got a system?". Even when I did have one in the car, I would always respond, "Nope". I've learned not to trust just about anybody, and keep all my things locked up as best as I can.

Just don't go out and by a new system right away, as they already know you are a target and will simply keep an eye out for when you do.

Damn dude, that really sucks. I always tell people to write down serial numbers for all their electronics in case they do turn up, you can prove that the stuff is yours. Xboxes, cd players, tvs, write it all down. In Idaho at least the pawn shop laws state that anything with serial numbers have to be written down and turned over to detectives to make sure that item isn't stolen. Helps them catch a lot of theft, but you have to have your serial numbers.

I work in loss prevention for Wal-mart, and you would be surprised what people steal. I have lost all faith in my fellow humans.
