View Full Version : Dirt showdown isn't launching
Whenever I try to launch Dirt Showdown from the Steam Library menu, the "Launching" box appears, then closes without anything major happening.
When I go to the main executable, it says "D3D11.dll not found".
(Is it really thinking that DX11 is on an XP machine?)
I've already tried running the component installers, verifying game content, going into the registry to make sure Steam has necessary rights, along with a few other things. I'm still open to suggestions, though.

I guess you didn't look at the minimum requirements.
Minimum Specifications:
Windows Vista or Windows 7 / AMD Athlon 64 x2 or Intel Pentium D @ 3.2GHz / 2 GB Ram
DirectX Compatible Sound Card / 15 GB Hard Drive Space / Dual Layer Compatible DVD-ROM Drive
Graphics Card: AMD HD2000 Series or Nvidia 8000 Series
XP stopped DirectX support at 9c. DirectX 10 started with Vista. Since DirectX 10 was launched over 5 years ago, I imagine that most game developers have DirectX 9 in their rear view by now.
Strange....

Running XP SP3 myself.
Still, this is pushing me to get 7.

I don't think he knows what he is talking about... I see 2 glaring issues..
1. XP does not support DX11
2. The Nvidia 9600GT does not support DX11.
So unless he was able to capture a unicorn fart and condense it into a magic powder... I think he is trolling or just full of it.
Bummer :(
Did a little more research, it is, in fact, DX11 only.

Well the up side is.. you will probably will be extremely happy with the visual performance of DX11 with your current rig.
Do they still offer Student discounts on Windows 7?
I think so; only problem is, I am no longer a student. Lost access to the email account.

I hate XP. It's ancient and I wish I could buy everyone a copy of 7
Believe me, I wish I could have a legit copy of 7.

I have no money for 7.
Unless you have a spare 7 key floating around..... >_>
Why did you think I had a P4 as a main computer...?
As for the 8GB RAM? That's what my Linux install is for.
did you know some terrible people actually developed an activation program that works flawlessly? those terrible individuals, stealing from a huge corporation and breaking the laws and such... makes me sick to my stomach. who would ever break the law and do that... not i... 8)
^Thing is, like I've said, I'm not an eyepatch-wearing kind of guy.
And Wine is working like a charm on my system. XP is just for the apps that don't run (well) under Wine.
