Too bad the best you can visually see in most media is only going to be 1080p.

Finally, a decent gaming monitor.

That's all dependent on viewing distance.

Now the bigger issue is the fact that there's currently no content for it.

I personally like the quote from the article, "The set will also do its best to "upscale" TV, DVD and Blu-ray movies, so they look better." I'm pretty sure its best for 1080p content is to just take one pixel and display it as 4 pixels. No need to interpolate what might have been there.

Did you somehow miss the TVs released by LG, Toshiba and so on.
Sony wasn't first to the punch :P
granted I would want the Sony one anyways

So it'll have to stretch a 1080P video to fit this TV? It'll be fuzzy

Don't see why you would say that. It is still the same pixle ratio as 1080p content.
Its supposed to make lower Res stuff look better through upsampling.

I want a 50" panel with quad HD resolution, and the computer to drive it. No messing about with three separate displays. :-)

Have you seen the LG cinema ratio screen?

29" screen 21:9 ratio and 2560x1080 pixels

Meh. I have a 30" Dell flat panel at 2560x1600. Higher than HD. Still, bigger would be sweet for gaming on.

Its the ratio of the thing that's awesome. Having that extra field of view IMO is sweet.
